when there are so many other equally bizarre religions (Scientology, Jehovah's Witness, Wicca, Satanism) that are not? Is this religious discrimination?

While I appreciate the other responses, polygamy is illegal, period, in the united states.
religions can practice what they want, but they cannot break current laws.
some indian tribes are given carte blanche to use hallucinogens - but only in the context of religious ceremony as used by their ancestors.

the pedophile issue is yet ANOTHER criminal activity. children are powerless. adults, especially when the kids have been raised from birth in a cult, are authority figures. just like in OUR societies and religions.

Im not sure why you are equating Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses and Wicca with Polygamy. To my knowledge, there are are no instances of Polygamy in any of those religions. I am not familiar with Satanism at all, but am more than passingly acquainted with two of the other 3 you mentioned.

Jehovah's Witnesses were originally called International Bible Students. You might not agree with their beliefs, but they consider themselves strictly bible based with no input from other books (although they do have many study aids based on the bible) and dont actually encourage marriage in general until a person is close to 30. Marriage between MORE than 2 persons is not encouraged at all and as a matter of fact, would be grounds for disfellowshipping (excommunication) from the organization.

While Im sure there are polygamists who are Wicca, the very beliefs involved with Wicca would not encourage the act of Polygamy and CERTAINLY not with underage children! Wicca is simpy a belief in the divine without input from the bible (generally) and respect and love for the natural world. Wicca believes that there is balance in everything and because of that balance, the Divine has the same balance.

Scientology I am not terribly familiar with but I have never read that they have in any way encouraged polygamy with underaged children.

Personally, I dont have a problem with Polygamy itself. As long as all are adults and they acknowledge the complications such a grouping can cause then I say, "More Power to them!"

Goddess Bless!

I don't know what the "FLDS" is. The LDS, Latter Day Saints, used to practice plural marriages, but now they're against it. They had a choice between statehood [Utah] or not, but to attain it, they had to declare plural marriages illegal, which they are.
Bigamy [two wedded partners] and polygamy [more than two wedded partners] is illegal. The only reason it hasn't been enforced is because there's too much of it, and the law doesn't have provisions as to what to do with the huge families created by this practice.

There is so much perversion in the FLDS religion, Rape, incest, Molestation ETC,you wont find that in the others you listed, plus Polgamy has been agianst the law, at least in Utah where it all started, since around the turn of the century (1900).

He is a criminal because he forced young unwilling girls to have sex with older men. If a leader in any of the equally bizarre religions you mentioned did this then they to would be criminals. His religious beliefs are not why he is a criminal it is his actions according to those beliefs. So no, this is not religious discrimination.

Polygamy in the FLDS comes under attack because of the illegal marriages of older men ( 50's plus) to younger girls...sometimes as young at 12!!! There is also accounts of child abuse, verbal, physical and sexual, rape and sodamy. I think that is the illegal part that they are trying to stop. The marriage of these young girls, and the horrible acts committed against them!

If you join a religion, you promise to obey the rules of that religion no matter how bizarre they are.

Personally, I think they're all nuts.

This one is particularly heinous because children are involved. Girls, with absolutely no say in the matter, are married off to older men.
