Yes, but the problem is that humans as a whole have selectively open minds. Even free thinkers tend to be closed to people and ideas that go against what they want to believe or not believe in. The key to having an open mind is listening to other ideas and not dismissing them but seeing if they could have merit if not for you for someone else. Each person is different. They are different in what they have lived, how they perceive things, who they are. Accept them. If each person did this for then there would be more friendships and less feuds.

Yes. Unfortunately it lets in too much of the wrong thing. There is correct thinking and there is wrong thinking. Most of our thinking is influenced by external stimuli, that is, knowledge and perception. Most of it is garbage that must be filtered out. What is filtered out and what is allowed in depends on how tight the filter is woven. It is like an AC filter---if it is loosely woven, then it will let 90% or more of the dust through. If it is tightly woven, it will block out 90% or more of the dust. Sometimes the filter can be woven so tight that almost nothing gets through, and this is as bad as having no filter at all. Our beliefs control the weave of our filter. The looser the weave, then more liberal the thinking. the tighter the weave, the more conservative the weave. If you have no vision in your life, if you lack direction or firm convictions, then you have a pretty loose weave. Tighten it up for your own protection. If you are totally inflexible, then you need to loosen up a bit.

An open mind is more willing to accept things. This could be good or bad.
We need to be careful of what we let in.

Yes, but you have to be a bit discerning about what you let in, otherwise you'll end up believing any old nonsense. Critical thinking is the key.

i in my opinion like your question! human beings do certainly spend far too lots time and capability on labels -- labeling themselves, labeling others, etc. i'm a male who has continuously been fascinated in adult males. That makes me gay. i do no longer, even nonetheless, ever bypass out of my thank you to tell those that i'm gay. I by no ability say, "hi, my call is _____ and that i'm gay." i think of human beings might desire to easily stay their lives and pursue happiness as they see in positive condition, and enable others in basic terms draw their very own conclusions approximately them. Frankly, i do no longer think of there is one in all those element as "the gay community" -- fairly once you witness how fairly rotten gay individuals might properly be to a minimum of one yet another over the main ridiculously petty issues. Who cares? My physician, criminal expert, and different experts I hire are promptly -- why on earth might I make their sexual orientation a controversy by ability of having purely a gay physician and a gay criminal expert? Do i want their expert centers, or do i decide to objective bedding them? the factor i'm making is that i think no compulsion whatsoever to stay completely in "the gay community." I in basic terms work together with all varieties of human beings, and enable them to allure to their very own conclusions approximately me. If I bump into somebody who seems to be anti-gay, I in basic terms initiate averting them -- i became born this sort, so I even have no longer something to exhibit regret for or experience ashamed of.
