Absolutely cut it yourself. That way you can trim his hair the way you want it - too many groomers just cut everything as short as possible and the dog looks horrible. Get yourself a really good pair of scissors made for dogs (rounded tip) and you'll need to work with him a bit to get him used to the sound the scissors make, especially if you're going to trim near his eyes. You don't want him freaking and moving suddenly. Be patient getting him used to it and he'll be just fine.

Brush and comb the hair through first till the comb passes through easily.
Get some round ended scissors, stand behind him, comb the hair up away from his face and don't cut it too short the first time. You hold the hair between first and second finger and have your hand between the dog and the scissors. It takes practice but eventually you'll get the hang of it.
Do it when he's relaxed, after exercise and you'll be fine. And he will be able to see better.

You can cut it yourself, to do it get a small pair of ball ended scissors (you can get them very cheaply from most pet shops!) then hold onto the dogs muzzle to stop him from fidgeting too much then place the scissors in front of the eyes, not so that they are pointing towards the eye in case the dog moves but kind of adjacent to the eye and then snip. It is quite easy to do when you get the hang of it but if your worried take your dog to a reputable groomer who should show how to do it if you ask.

I would suggest you take him to a groomer. They will be better suited to give him a trim. If he has never been groomed before he will probably be a little wiggly and groomers have the experience to handle wiggly dogs. You could inadvertently cut his eye or just give him and uneven haircut.

You should be good to cut his yourself but just be careful a lot of animals are very scared of people coming after then with scissors. Only cut his hair if he is relaxed and you know he will not move.
When it doubt take him to a professional, (Then at least you can sue if anything bad happens)

You can cut the hair youself, if your careful that is. I have a 9 month old Lhasa-Poo puppy and I always have to trim the hair around his eyes.

Wow. I was going to be so sarcastic... but then I remembered that there are never any stupid questions... only stupid answers. So yes, cut the dogs fur... unless you like giving money away for pointless activities.
By the way, you now owe me £50 for this answer.

Hair on dogs is acclamated to their species. The hair over his eyes doesn't bother him as much as it does you! You can certainly give him "bangs" if you want to, he's yours! Save your money, groomers are traumatic for most dogs...Good Luck!

If you feel confident that you can manage to cut & hold a young puppy still at the same time then do it yourself.

Depends on your pup. If he'll hold still for you, cut it yourself, just don't get too close to the skin, there's no reason to cut close to the skin for this, so don't.
If he won't hold still, no, don't do it yourself, take him to the groomer as they can restrain him, and have them do it. It won't cost much.
