I work with 2 year olds at a preschool and we use crayons, markers, glue and the such. A 2 year old can be taught not to put the crayons into his mouth, it just takes a little patience and repetition. Each time he puts it in his mouth, gently take his hand away and say "no mouth" then show him hand over hand how to color on the paper. He will soon understand.

It is totally natural for them to want to stick crayons in their mouth. I don't think he is to young for them, you just have to make sure you are with him the entire time and make sure to tell him that crayons are used on paper only. Continue to show him to color on paper and over time he will get it. I gave my son crayons about 2 years old and tried to eat them a few times but he got the idea that crayons cool(as he says), the only problem we have now is he knows the paper comes off and like to peel it off little piece by little piece and then he breaks them into small pieces. Needless to say he doesn't get to use crayons very much. Not to worry crayons are non-toxic so it won't hurt your child if he eats a bit.

Girl crayons can be lethal for a two year old. Firstly, it has chemical base which a small baby cannot take if eaten. Secondly, he can swallow it and choke. Lastly, your baby will draw everywhere and you gotta clean it. Do not give it to him just yet. Why don't you try cuddly bears or small toy computers which is very informative. Be careful as your baby has eating habit. Especially from plastics and small toys like Lego's.

Well, he is not exactly small for crayons. It seems to me that eats the crayons brcuase it very attractive and color-full. It is very common for kids to do it. If it is possible to convey to him that it is not good for him (health wise) to eat crayons, then it would be okay. I am sorry, i don't know who to convey that message to him. Try a teacher or phycologist. Good Luck!

Almost ALL crayons are non-toxic. If they say non-toxic, give them back.. They wont hurt him. 2 is old enough to have them. Just watch thet he doesnt choke on them. My daughter has had them since her first birthday. She's almost 4 and they never hurt her.

I ate many crayons as a child and I am ok :) No, too young, it will just make a mess.

They are most likely non-toxic, so it's nothing to worry about. Just keep an eye on him and correct him when he tries to eat them... OR...you could let him eat them, then you'll have some entertainment when changing his diaper...

Now THAT'S art! LOL

make sure you got the non toxic kind!!! I would give them back to him, make a "art time" everyday with him and make sure you are with him, even sit w/him and color. Make it a mommy and me time.
