St. Thomas Aquinas wrote. "The Lord's Prayer is the most perfect of prayers. . . . In it we ask, not only for all the things we can rightly desire, but also in the sequence that they should be desired. This prayer not only teaches us to ask for things, but also in what order we should desire them." (Summa theologiae II-II, 83, 9 http://www.newadvent.org/summa/308309.htm )

People cannot properly think of spiritual things like forgiveness of others and themselves when they are starving to death.

Jesus lived this in when he fed the crowds, when he taught after meals in peoples' home, and at the Last Supper.

This is why many Christian ministries first feed the bodies of hungry people before feeding their souls.

With love in Christ.

Daily Bread is first.

Book of Common Prayer (1928)
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

What you are referring to is not the Lord's prayer. but the model prayer. This is a common misconception. the model prayer is an example of what each prayer to God should contain---it is not a formula prayer to be repeated over and over, nor is it to be used as a doctrinal prayer. Prayer should be individually tailored by the individual. In contrictin your prayer you should always ask for forgive ness and this is the appropriate spot to do so. Follow the model that Jesus has given us and you will cover all bases. The Lord's prayer is located in the entire chapter of John 17. This is where Jesus prays to the Father in the Garden at Gethsemane.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thou art the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.

We should not consider deciding what goes first, or why. This is how Jesus taught us to pray.
The hardest part of this prayer for me is to forgive us our trespasses. as we forgive those who trespass against us. All of us Christians probably have the hardest time with this.

Read it in Mathew 6: 9-14. If you don't have a bible, 'give us this day our daily bread' comes first.

Give us this day...Trust me on this one. I recite this prayer almost daily. I'm not going to correct God on His prayer. He created me, so He can do whatever He wants.
