It is difficult to really understand.. I know I have read many reports on dreams by learned people who say it is because of this and because of that but in reality, the answer is not really cut and dried as to why.. I feel, however, that Many different theories, nothing for sure. There was a Freudian theory that holds some merit and that was that dreams are the result of
subconscious thoughts and desires. The other extreme attributes dreams to random "noise" in the neurons without special meaning.

My own understanding is that dreams are made out of many small parts of memory and imagination that get combined to form dream imagery. This is a process that runs both consciously and subconsciously. I don't really know and thus, must leave to speculation the reason why this is so.

I believe that they say it first of all is a means of storing information so different stimuli is being shuffled and sorted out and placed into appropriate files where the conscious mind will be able to reach for them if they are needed in exploring solutions to a problem when he awakens. Also by acting out dreams we seek possible explanations behind certain matters that we have encountered and act out situations that caused us anxiety perhaps as a catharsis of those feelings. Furthermore, by freezing the body in sleep it allows the body time to repair cell damage.

my favourite question. i would love to answer it in a looong paper but i am exhausted so i will answer it shortly. what you dream is real, dreams are real experiences and not different then the life we live. when we dream and experience something, this is real experience. the only difference from life that dreams are not continuous and shareable (you cannot invite ppl to your dream) and i think that science did not yet realize the importance and potential of dreaming. i believe that with help of dreams, we can experience things that we cannot experience in real life, so it could even be used as a virtual reality machine.

The significance of dreams originates in the subconscience in all of us; I believe that whatever we may see in our dreams stems from things we've already seen or experienced and have memories of, or things we've imagined or desired. It's like imagining things randomly in your sleep, and seeing them in the form of a dream. Whenever we imagine things when we're awake, it's called a daydream, which proves my point. I think that our mind causes us to dream to keep our brain mentally active in our sleep, rather than physically active during the day, like the brain exercises during your sleep through vivid imagery and thought. Also, dreams are commonly interpreted by people as a sign of the future or as being symbolic of something; Daniel in the Bible was a prophet who interpreted a king's dream about four beasts rising out of the ocean; this proved symbolic of the four kingdoms that were to become (I think...haven't read it in a while). If we desire something frequently, then we usually tend to see it in our dreams once or twice; it's happened to me. Sometimes you wish dreams to come true A.S.A.P, and sometimes you wish them to never happen in a million years. Either way, they're there, and you can interpret them any way you like; that's how man wrote the Bible, in his own beneficial interpretation. If you worry about something a lot, you dream about it. If you have a great fear of something, you dream about it. I believe that dreams also serve as little personal reminders, whether as trivial, like for the pencil you didn't return to your classmate, or as powerful, like for the hours you slept on duty which allowed one of the suspects to escape (random examples). Overall, I believe that dreams help us throughout our life, as reminders, as helpers, as things that reinforce how small we all really are, when compared to the neverending flow of time, and the rotation of the Earth.

Dreams are the brain working out what went unresolved in your psyche during the waking hours. Sometimes they are pleasant and sometimes not.

Be assured that if you DIDN'T dream, you'd become a psychiatrist's dream-come-true.

They can be fantasies, worries, concerns or even upcoming events.
