what do they do differently than an optometrist?is it just surgery?or are they better equiped to check our eyes than the average optomertist? any help appreciated.thanks

they're called ophthamologists. these are medical doctors that have specialized in the eye. they can treat diseases and problems as well as give eye exams. the eye exams they give are usually more comprehensive, and yes they can perform surgery.

There's more to it than meets the eye...pun intended. Those who said an ophthalmologist performs surgery are correct...they are also medical doctors and can treat any eye problem.

Optometrists have studied to do refractions. And now many states allow optometrists to prescribe medication for ocular diseases such as glaucoma.

And to make things even more confusing, optometrists now want to be called "optometric physicians."

An optometrist calculates the degree of deficiency of your vision, an ophthalmologist is an eye surgeon.

An optalmoligist, he is a medical doctor that specialises in eyes. the others are just trained about eye tests.
Basically the optal.. is way better, he can detect if there is anything medically wrong with your eyes and also prescribe fot glasses

ophthomologist
An ophthomologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of eyes.
An optometrist is not a medical doctor.

Ophthalmologist. They have more than a cursory knowledge of the inner workings of the eye.
