i'm a Christian yea, and he is reported to have said doing superman is the biggest thing one could ever do, apart from perhaps, playing Jesus, then he added, but superman is the best. I really think he deserves a kick up the bottom (i'll gladly kiss it better afterwards though *wink*) maybe he said this to not offend his movie bosses? why thats *** licking!

nata - absolutely, the moral of it is noble however, its underlying meaning will be that Jesus life is just fiction...that which i absolutely dont agree with...

To class Jesus along the lines of Superman is absolutely rediculous, Superman is a comic book character who comes from a fictional world. Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God.
Maybe we should try and send him a copy of the gospels and tell him to come down to Earth and face Facts. That's what Jesus Christ is Fact. The Holy Bible is Fact. Proven again and again by people whose lives He has changed. Also when I was at College, I found out that the Bible fits into every categorie, Science, History, well, everything. So I agree with you what was Brandon Routh thinking about....? Someone needs to have a word in his ear.

I'm a big Superman fan, and I agree it is one of the biggest roles you can play in a movie. We had this same debate in my office couple of weeks ago.
There are instances when similarities can be drawn between the two (Jesus and Superman) in the movie which is not Brandons fault. Like when he was floating in space above the Earth and his father said:
"They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you… my only son…"
I wouldn't blame Brandon Routh at all, the imagery is all there in the movie it's just whether you choose to see it or not.

I think you'll find that he just worded what he was trying to say in the wrong way. Probably what he meant was that superman is a better character to play as it affords more fun in the way of special effects. Also a lot more dates with women I'm sure. To follow in the footsteps of Christopher Reeves is a great honor and I sure he related it in this way to show his gratitude for the role not a hate for Jesus. Sometimes you have to read between the lines a little.

I hope he means Superman is the best character he could play in terms of his career, but if we are talking about who is better then Jesus quite obviously wins!
Apart from anything else, don't you think the Superman story is influenced even a little bit by the story of Jesus?
Think about it: a defenseless baby, sent to earth by his father (and in superman's case, also his mother) is brought up by an earthly family who teach him right and wrong. Then, when he grows up, he chooses to use his powers to fight evil (even though it means sacraficing what he wants to do with his life). And even sets a good moral footprint for kids to follow in... so, what do you think?

Of course between Superman and Jesus there is NO COMPARISON. Jesus sought to cure the underlying cause of the world's problem - Human Nature. Superman merely tackles the symptoms.

Who cares?! I love superman - and Brandon Routh was fantastic *drools* (seen it twice in theatres)
Entertainment wise - playing Superman is the biggest role in the movie industry. Playing Jesus is a big role in the religious community

Nah. The Superman mythos has a lot going for it. It's flight and power and mystery wrapped around a quirky character that people take seriously, no matter what.
Kind of like Jesus in that regard, though Jesus doesn't fly.

When I was a kid, I asked my Mom why Superman didn't fly over and kill Hitler. She told me that Superman would have done that, but Superman wasn't real. Then I asked why God didn't do it.
