It seems that George Washington use his associations with other freemasons. I have heard that many times. They are the oldest fraternity of men know to exist. Below are a few web sites that show the history, and associations of Washington with his generals.

There may be several reference books out there, but, I would first go to the D.A.R. website (Daughters of the American Revolution), post a search and you will get a fairly quick answer.
Also, whichever state you are interested in may have the "Soldiers and Sailors of the American Revolution" posted on line. Some states don't do it, but, most large libraries have these books. Or libraries in towns that have historical societies. Good Luck.
