Grasp the "meaty" part of the back of the neck firmly between the palm of your hand and the "palms" of the fingers (i.e., NOT the tips). Hold this grip for about one minute. Don't be afraid to squeeze as hard as you can. Then do the same thing for the trapezius muscles on both sides of your neck (the big muscle going from the top of you shoulders to the side of your neck). This is an acupressure technique used by massage therapists for tension headaches and neck spasms. It really does work. Of course, it would be better to have someone do it TO you, but you can do it yourself if no one is around to help.

RELAX. Don't go into a panic. What you should REALLY do is see a doctor who will, first of all, perform a thorough physical examination on. Then, he'll test your reflexes, your vision, your blood pressure, see about your circulation, etc.

You may very well be under some stress and/or tension. Or, you might be straining your eyesight (or, be working under too much/too little light). You might also have bad posture while performing some chore. You just might not be getting enough sleep. Poor diet. Sheesh... the list is endless!

The causes of headaches are so many and so often the result of very, very simple things that we, who are not medical personnel, often neglect to even consider. Our friends, acquaintances, relatives and family and even strangers often wish they could help but, due to limited knowledge and not having a medical background, often speculate, like many on this forum, and will frighten you with guesses. In fact, even a doctor who does not examine you will be speculating and will say, "Take two Aspirins or Tylenol and call me in the morning."

Go see a doctor, get a full medical check-up and you stand a better chance of finding out what the causes (if any) are. Don't panic. It can also be as simple as changing your pillow (too soft, too still not high enough, too high... who knows?).

See a doctor and get a full medical check. By seeing a medical doctor, whatever it is, even if something "serious" can be taken care of if you go on time before matters get worse. Good luck!

First of all, do you have a temperature ? If so, go to the emergency or call your doctor.
Is your next stiff ? Can you bend your head forward and touch your chin to your chest ? If not, go to the emergency or call your doctor.
Sometimes tension/stress can cause headaches in the back of the head and neck. If you rub your neck in the back and on the sides are the muscles sore ? If so, it's probably stress. Try to relax. Maybe a warm bath or shower and take either Advil or Motrin.
I hope you feel better soon !

Have you tried some over-the-counter sleep remedies? They help you to relax and get rid of that tension.
