sun conures are the sweetest birds....IF you are a bird person, and can make the commitment to them... they need at least an hour a day of attention... and they need expansive food and lots of toys... If not you will have screaming issues, and your experience will not be enjoyable...
Any bird that is as intelligent as a conure needs to have time and training.... they can be a member of the family, they can talk, they love to play.....
but you have to teach him... or all you will have is a pretty... noisy bird in a cage!

I love my birds, but I do NOT think they make good pets, in general. I have two conures. The are very loud.
Also, a sun conure can live up to 30 years. Are you sure you'll still want him 30 years from now? What if you have a baby and the bird wakes the baby up with it's screaming? Are you SURE you can offer a forever home? If not, please do not get one! They are messy, demanding.... You can't just feed them a seed diet, either. Are you prepared to cut up fresh fruit and veggies every day for the next 30 years?
PLEASE think about this! There are already so many unwanted birds, and the number is growing rapidly as they become popular....

I have a male sun conure. Great bird. He loves both of us and will come to either. He has learned to not poop on me and lets you know when it is time or he will jump down. Normally he wants to go back to his cage. He can be loud but most of the time he is too busy tearing something up. He likes to chace the tiel around but dont' seem to hurt her must likes to make her jump and run. He does talk some and can be demanding. But normally only screams late in the day or mid morning. If you will go get him he will set on your sholder and be quiet.
I like the conure a lot better then the Tiel.

We had one and did not care for it as a pet...it was beautiful but it screamed constantly...it probably needed more attention than we could give it, so we found it a lovely home with a friend that adored it, had lots of time on her hands, and had experience with keeping small parrots before.
Fos us, no, it was not a good pet...you have to be so careful with birds...if you cook with a teflon coated frying pan and it scorches, this could kill them, drafts can kill them, sprayed pesticides in the neighbor's yard when your windows are open and you're at work can kill them...they are lovely animals and actually more like dogs than people would think, they need out of the cage often and lots of physical affection, they need to be given fruits/veggies every day, NOT just bird seed/bird food, and you need a special vet, called an AVIAN VETERINARIAN, to see them...sometimes if you're in a rural area it is VERY difficult to find an avian vet anywhere around. Research avian veterinarians in your area and go and talk to them before strongly considering this.

Sun conures are smart, sweet parrots. BEWARE, however, that they are the LOUDEST of all small birds and possibly in the top 3 loudest of any bird at all. They screech and scream a lot, so if you have close neighbors or live with other people you might want to consider something quieter.

LOUD LOUD LOUD
I researched birds before choosing an African Grey. It's more expensive but the smartest bird, learns as much as 2000 words and is relatively quiet. DH got a Severe Macaw...when he yells, wow...loud!
Consider budgies. They are funny, loving and smart. Parakeet just means small parrot.

I love my sun, he is a total doll! Just make sure that they have lots to do because they can be bad chewers and pluckers if they don't have lots of things to do. They're aren't known to be the best talkers, but they can imitate all sorts of funny noises like whistles and phones ringing etc.!

they are sweet birds but find out if they come with ear plugs first. i have a jenday conure and wake up to his screams every day. if you can deal with that, then you'll be ok.

They do as long as you are willing to spend the next decade with them and their very loud squawking. They live a long time and attach themselves to one person. If you would get rid of it, it would probably die. If you decide to get one, invest in a good pair of ear plugs.....
