Can documents/folders/pictures/etc... be saved onto a DVD in data form like you can a CD as long as its in Data Form, or can only video and audio be saved onto a DVD and can the audio/video be saved inside a folder when i burn it. The reason i am asking is because my computer may have a glitch due to the power knocking out about half a week ago, and i may have to completely restore my computer from the beginning and i need to save some large data.

The economical way is to buy a dvd rewritable disk format it with nero in cd you just drag and drop or copy and paste to it like you would a floppy or delete when file no longer needed you can also copy the disk when full to a write once dvd then erase and use again
if you are using windows software you can do the followig
Use xp disk as you would to do a normal install at the instalation screen pick repair windows leave file system as it is this will re install windows but leave your files as they are on the computer
all that will not be available are any updates that you installed due to your windows being back to its original install DONOT pick the change file system or your drive will be auto formatted that is a clean install that destoys all on the hard drive you will still need your serial number to re install

Yes, you can definately save data on DVD as a normal Data DVD, for your Video DVD's save / record those seperately on their own disc as DVD-Video.
