Active ROM is when you do exercises yourself, with your own power against the gravity or otherwise. ASSISTED is when someone helps you to do the same exercises always placing a hand to support your Range Of Movement.

ROM means Range of Movement to healthcare workers (not the read only memory thing)
So active assisted range of movement exercises means exercises for the range of movement of a joint where the patient uses active movement (the patient uses their muscles to move the joint) and the movement is assisted (usually by a physiotherapist).
This is in contrast with passive movement exercises where the therapist moves the joint.
Also different from the unassisted active ROM exercises.
