There are both very difficult jobs, both tend to be the referees for society. I once heard on training tape that the Officer's job is to think for someone when they can't of won't think for themselves. It takes allot to do that. I, too, work as a Security Officer these days, I am pursuing a Master's in Criminal Justice to attempt to rise up the ladder a bit.

It depends on where you work. Security for lowes is nothing like security of a gov. building. So get a little more specific and police officers are some of the greatest people on the planet even though I hate seeing them in the median when im heading down the highway

Just as in the general population, there are some excellent Police and Security Officers...and some real duds. It's what you make of it.

They are both jobs. I have noticed a lot of police-wanna-be's in the security field. I wouldn't call them losers, just people that wanted a certain kind of law enforcement job and couldn't get it...so they settled for something similar.

If your a police officer and you put your life on the line everytime you go to work, just to help ensure the rest of us are a little safer - I certainly don't think that makes you a loser.

I have to say that there are some security guards that don't have a lot going for them, then again there are quite a few of those at the bottom level of any trade.
