I've battled with this for along time and have found a few ideas.

A sleep specialist who sat next to me on a plane once told me 2 things about sleep. First, you can not reset your sleep clock by going to bed to bed early alone, it's all done on when you wake up. Your internal clock is set on when you wake, not when you sleep.

If you can manage to force yourself to climb out of bed just once early and see the morning sun, then going to bed at a normal time that evening will do wonders to reset your internal clock. Just going to bed early uaully won't do it for you.

Secondly, he mentioned that your body will go into a shut down mode 6 hours after exercise, so, if you want to help go to sleep earlier, raise your heart-rate for at least 20 minutes 6 hours before you want to go to bed. It might aid you in waking up early the following morning to reset your sleep clock.

Third, I read a book once on self-hypnosis. One item it described was setting your brain to wake you at a certain hour. Before you go to sleep, imagine in your mind walking towards a cliff edge. Beyond the cliff edge is a body of water flush with the cliff your standing on. Hold in your hands a stone engraved with the time you want to wake up. Drop the stone into the water, and watch it turn as it descends, flashing the time each time it rotates until it disappears. The few times i've tried it, I've certainly woken up, but being non-groggy enough to pull myself out of bed is a question of will power. =)

Good luck.

See if this true story of the famous Gibbons author of the monumental work The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire could be of some help to you. He was a late riser. He kinow unless he can form the habit of getting up early he would have to forget about the work.He secured a promise from his servant to wake him up, whatever may happen, early in the morning. The servant had a terrible time completing this mission. Gibbons would not get up and if he did he would be in such a vile mood that he would abuse the poor servant and also threatened to dismiss him but never did. He sometimes would come down to physically attack the servant. But the servant remained steadfast to his master's orders and kept on waiting him day in and day out till aa last he did start getting up early to attend to his work. Gibbon has gratefully recorded this in the preface to the book and has stated that but for his servant he would never has been able to complete the work.
I don't know how old you are but am sure that you must not be too old. As you age the need for the rest of sleep becomes less and as you are almost sleeping only with your eyes open. There is also a psycholoical fear that you would be further reducing your effective living by sleeping too long which acts as a rude servant who wakes you uop by pulling you by your hair..

Try an alarm clock. After a while of using one now my body automatically wakes up at the same time every morning. If you don't have an alarm clock then get a reliable person to call you.

Here are some of the things that is worth understanding and trying.

Every one needs different amount of sleep, but an adult needs between 8 hours and 10 hours of sleep.

Every one has slightly different sleep pattern, and yet different sleep cloak.

1. You need to determine how much sleep you need.

2. You need to reset your cloak to wake up early.

On holidays you can figure out, how much sleep you need.

Resetting the cloak:

This habit is difficult to establish. It takes minimum of 21 days to establish the time to go to sleep and to time wake up.

If you can just go to sleep at certain time and wake up at certain time then after 27 days or so you will be in a habit of doing same with relative ease and it will become easier as the time passes.

Rest is just simple math.

You will have to take some pains.Firstly you have to fix that you will defeat your laziness. Then try the alarm clock say for 6o'clock in the morning.Don't worry you will not get up early right as the alarm rings, firstly you will hesitate then shut that alarm. But don't give up,you will get used to it after say 4-5 days. Then say after a week you will start getting up as the alarm rings(though in hesitation). After 1 more week you will realise that you have defeated your laziness.Ta-Da this is magic.

Wake up call or alarm from a phone or clock but you gonna need to set it for morning hours not after 7 a.m or 8a.m `cause that`s pretty late.
