Ok first off the other 2 answers to this question were ridiculous! If you don't have something real to contribute don't! Our schools are a wreck because our government has allowed the only things that had any control over our children be constitutionally unfit in schools, the first is religion, there is no faith in a higher power in school anymore, I happened to be one of those kids who had the fear of god in me at birth, it kept me from doing drugs, having sex, and backtalking my teachers, it also made me a straight A student who was very popular because I was nice to everyone. Second Corporal punishment in school Now I am not talking about someone beating your children I am talking about having to sit outside the principals office knowing they called your dad or mom and you were about to get a swat on the behind, we don't do that anymore bacause thats considered abuse, we'll just let our kids roam free and pay the concequences later...Great Idea. 3rd Parental Contral, Parents are resposible for how their children act, We are the ones raising them oh wait no thats Daycare right? Well we are supposed to be the ones raising them teaching right from wrong and YES i spanked my kids, Not beat Spanked, and they are the best behaved children I have seen in a long long time, I no longer have to spank them because they learned that I was in charge at a young age. I was spanked and Whatever I did to get a spanking was never repeated trust me. I have absolutley no damage from being spanked. I do however feel you pain that our school system sucks and these days so do kids, theyare rude, dumb, and insubordinate, we have let them take over!

"No child left behind" as mandated by our government really means that public education will be taught at, and not exceed the moron level. If you doubt this just look at your own literacy level when asking the question, "Why are public schools not helping ARE KIDS ? some KIDS can not read or write OR CAN DO SIMPLE MATH TOO." You should have asked, "Why are public schools not helping our children?" Then phrased your argument thus. "Some children can not read or write and some can not perform simple math either." You obviously attended public school also. You should have been left behind.

Some kids have the attitude that they dont have to do the things the teacher asks (parents instilled ideas)
Some kids are put on the ridilin medicine as a control factor.. not because they really have a problem with concentration they have a problem with manners and have never been corrected by their parents.
Some kids need real parents who show an interest in them instead of relying on the teachers to teach them respect, manners and the common laws of reasoning.
Some kids need some additional help from a tutor or specialty teacher.

Because we keep cutting their budgets. Teachers are under paid and under appreciated. If a teacher disciplines a child, the parent often takes the child's side and goes after the teacher. Is it any wonder they suufer from burnout? The classrooms are filled with obsolete materials and equipment while we pile more and more kids in. Many of us are happy to pay hundreds of dollars to go to a professional sporting event, but if anyone suggests raising taxes in order to get more money to the schools, many show up to vote opposing such an increase.....Very sad that our kids education isn't more of a priority to some people.

Lack of resources and commitment. It's all about the budget and not enough about the curriculum. It is a joke and not enough parents are supporting their kids education either.
