My father developed a light trap for the mass spectrometer on the Pioneer Venus probe that landed on the planet Venus in the 70's. It's basically a device that light enters, but can not leave in any other way except the openning it came through. it should prevent light from entering the gas sampler on the mass spectrometer as this would make it's readings erroneous.

Allegedly (supposedly/theoretically), you could trap photons and even bend lights in a blackhole where extreme phenomena and antimatters are (again) supposed to be found to occur.
