Anyone know anything about Satanism? I'm writing a book and one of the characters is being tormented by her husband's x-mistress- who dabbles in satanism. What kind of things would a satansit to to mess with someone? Or is it pretty broad as long as it's evilish?

UMMM i'm not trying to practice satanism or anything like that. just writing about it. and the character will be protrayed as the BAD GUY. just wanted to be clear.

I'm sorry if I burst your bubble, but Satanism isn't an actual religion. Alot of Fundimentalist Christians will say it is, but that is a tactic used to play on people's fears (as well as push their agenda). Hollywood also has jumped on the idea for their horror movies. And of course, you have the occasional, extremely depressed person who will do something nutty like sacrifice animals or rituals to call up demons. Just remember that people like that are seriously need mental help.
Also note that Fundimentalist Christians have used the term "Satanism" to mean any religion (except Judiasm) and any variation of Christianity that doesn't follow their view of things. Having grown up around Fundimentalists and Orthodox Christians, I know their beliefs all too well.
As for the legendary "Satanic Bible", it is a parody about Islam. Its portayal of the religion was what got the book banned in many nations, and its Middle Eastern author received many death threats as was forced to leave his homeland.

The only thing I do know that satanism isn't actually devil worship, it is the worship of ones self. I believe that they do still participate in rituals, but I think that the big issue is self pleasure. Maybe he should dabble in paganism instead, because that is more the path you are reaching for it sounds like. Satanism is a created religion by a man named Anthony LeVey ( I am 90 % positive, but it may be spelled LeVay or close...same sound). Google it and check it out real quick. Then google paganism, that way you have some quick research, and choose the evil enchantress, and how her jealous tyraids would best suit your story.

If you're really serious, take a trip to Barnes and Noble and go to the spiritual, new age section. They have a lot of books on witchcraft and satanism. I've got a few of them for my own research purposes. A lot of it sounds like a lot of bogus, but it's a nice learning experience. You'd be amazed at the books on it.

Satanist are not inately "evil", as you say. We are just like everyone else, and a lot of us seem to be nicer than your average person. As far as the beliefs, a satanist would belive more in an eye for an eye, so whatever the ex did to her she should do something fitting in return. But I wouldn't have her casting spells and the like. Maybe you should try for a witch instead of a Satanist?

Well if she only "dabbles" in Satanism, spells to lose money, pain, accidents...
So yeah, I guess kinda broad, but there are a lot of spells out there on the net under black magic.

There are some people who can be given certain powers (what these gifts are I don't really know but perhaps superhuman intelligence and streangth, attractiveness, charisma and so on) from the devil in exchange for their servitude. Satan is a much harder master than God is.
You have probably heard of the contracts 8written in blood) I don't know if there's any truth to this.
Peolpe who have come into the sevice of evil have much difficulty of breaking free because of grave fear.
some people have been helped to do this by exorcists and other priests.

All satanists and people in the occult use pentagrams and use curses etc. Many will have a special ability which is given them by demonic spirits.
Look friend, this is real, and Jesus Christ is the only way to be delivered from evil spirits, because they are really fallen angels who are more powerful then us.
This is from what i know of the Bible, and from what i have seen in my own experiences. I ask that whilst you write your book, you look into Jesus Christ as your saviour.

I would suggest getting a hold of Anton LeVey`s Satanic Bible- although I`m not sure what its content is.

Basically satanism is about not having rules to live by, youare free to do whatever you feel, it doesnt really have so much to do with satan, other than he rebelled against god and was thrown out. That is what satanists are basically practicing, that they are bound by no rules.

You could seek about the esoteric rituals made by Satan worshippers. Maybe vampirism could be included as well.
