For those that know their history several Nazis tried to assasinate hitler by planting a bomb during a meeting....well it was foiled..my question is what do you think would have happend if Hitler was suceesfully killed? What would the outcome of the war have been? Would they have stopped expanding their borders?

The incident you are refering to was to overthrow Hitler because of bad military decisions. They wanted to kill him because they knew he was ready to turn the war towards Russia (a turn which ultimately cost him everything).

When you are dealing with people willing to kill to take power, you must assume that you are dealing with an extremist. Hitler was definitely a whack-job...and his replacement wouldn't have been any better. His replacement would not have started another war on the Russian Front, which would have kept Germany more viable to expand through Europe. The Germans would have held Europe for a much longer period of time and WWII would have lasted many more years (nukes or no nukes.)

Remember, Germany was developing the Atom Bomb as well. Perhaps the resources used in supporting troops on the Russian front would have been diverted into developing the bomb. Now you have the question of "What if Nazi-Germany had developed the A-Bomb?"

At the time that the bomb attempt was directed against Hitler it was backed by a group of military officers who no longer believed that Germany could win the war. I think that they taken power (there was more to the plot than just killing Hitler) that they would have tried for and probably gotten surrender terms. The USSR and the Birts would not have been all for it but there would have been a strong push by the US to settle things in Europe and move on to Japan. The long term effect would I think have been an earlier European alliance that included Germany and probably would have fought a ground war with the USSR. With the German surrender as a model I think the war with Japan would have ended under terms. The end result might have been the Atomic bomb being used first on soviet targets.

Rommel was already trying to arrange a truce with Eisenhower, but when the plot failed,Hitler started putting two and two together. Hitler's deputy,Rudolf Hess would have succeeded him. But Hess knew that the Reich's days were numbered so he took off to Scotland where he was captured.

The event you are talking about happened 20 July 1944. The German Army was in ruins already. By assassinating Hilter his successor, probably Hermann Goering, would have started surrendering a lot sooner and saved many lives on all fronts.

Most likely, the Nazi regime would still control all or most of Europe.

Hitler made a fatal mistaking by attacking Russia before it had wiped out England. If Germany had waited two years before attacking Russia, they would have had only one front, and likely been more much successful at holding most of Europe.

We would've found out who his successor was, and he just might've been worse than Hitler himself. I consider us lucky for not having the opportunity to find out. At least Hitler was man enough to kill himself when he knew he was beat.

Saddam wasn't so wise, and now, we're footing the bill for that one. The jury's still out on what happens with Bin Laden, although, he's technically never ruled a country, the end result will be comparable, once he's captured or found dead.

It would not have ended the war, You would only have another nazi leader ready to do damage tothe Jews. There are a lot of them that hate the jews then and even if those who succeeded in killing him were sympathetic with the Jewish cause. There would still be rebels that would carry on with the war.

But definately, i dont think there is anyone of them that has his kind of mind and hatred for the Jews.

The war would have been ended quickly, Rommel wouldn't have been executed, Berlin wouldn't have been damaged as much... etc...

A lot of things could have happened if Hitler was taker out early.
