i'm one of the few people in the worl who never once ate a school dinner from primary right up to secondary. my old schools were within 2 minutes walking distance so i went home for lunch.

We had the most delicious pudding which had a pastry base then a thick orange curd and on top a layer of set dark chocolate. It was served cold with hot custard which melted the chocolate topping........ ohhh yummy! I've asked several school cooks for the recipe in the last couple of years but they're not allowed to make it any more as it's too fattening! Boring! Fattening maybe but blimey it was yummy! If anyone knows the recipe......!

38 yrs ago we had great school meals, my favorite was pie, mash and peas with gravy, dessert i loved was a pastry base with jam, bananas and cold custard or something on top, it was made into a kind of tart and i would love the recipe if any old school cooks out there

Loved school dinners - yum yum! My faves were quiche, cottage pie, fish & chips on a friday, and custard mmm
Not all together obviously!
The only complaint I ever had was that they watered down the youghurt :-(
