Most tele-evangelists were born around the 1950"s, at a time of the womens Equal Rights movement and social revolution that swept across the western world, but it was also the time when Americans were experimenting with and forming "new" religions and doctrines, largely based on esoteric faiths such as western spiritualism of its various and diverse kinds, as well as spiritualism, black magic the occult and various sorcery sources and doctrines from the third world which were then brought into mainstream Christian worship through these tele-evangelists. These wicked men of sin, deceivers, such as Kenneth Hagin Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn and many others, brought in being new doctrines through Pentecostalism, resulting in all the subsequent multitudes of Pentecostal inspired Christian Sects and Associations. All of which, were an open divergence away from the biblical teachings and practices of traditional Christianity. In fact, all, as such as mentioned above, would be considered "Herectics" by every traditional Christian faith throughout all the ages up to this present day - Catholic faith is not included. For it was Solomon who said, PROVERBS:23:23: Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

While I wouldn't go as far as to apply it to all televangelists, there are many practices that televangelists do that are very questionable, from the means they receive donations to the messages they preach and the manner they conduct their shows. To mention them here would make this an uncomfortably long answer, and it is sufficient to say that those who are close to God and know His Word will know these faults just by seeing them.
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." - 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 (I would encourage you to read the entire book of 2 Timothy to see how this has been a problem of their time and how it is more so now.)
What is more important that the condemnation of these televangelists is the status of your own salvation. It is good that you are aware of these practices, and that they are not to be condoned, but let them not be a hindrance to your own faith. Do not let the concern for these things disqualify you from the race.
"And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." - Luke 13: 2-3

1) One should be rich in the Spirit instead.
2) Jesus told the rich young man in the Bible to "give up everything to follow Me (Jesus)" because the rich young man values his riches more than life.
3) God gives gifts to His children, just as our parents do. However, many of the so-called "evangelists" are good actors. Don't worry, the Bible says that they already have received thier just rewards. God cannot be mocked.
4) To offer prayer in exchange for money is really a no-no. If an "evangelist" wants money in return, then he is false.
5) Many see through this that's why many people are quick to switch the channel when they see and hear an evangelist yelling and pounding and praying like crazy on TV.

God uses all whether good or bad to bring others into his kingdom.
Scripture says it is the love of money that is your downfall. it doesnt say you should not have money. How can the poor feed the poor if all were poor.
We all have a part to play in life some have money some dont, some that have, help others that dont have anything. Some hoard it all up for themselves.
Some evangelists are false the majority are not. Some make many mistakes, But before you judge them ask yourself would I do the same as they did. There but for the grace of God go I.
Its so easy to fall when your on a high place, and where all can see your life laid out for all to see.

Not all but some. Some are evil and the Bible warns us about these men/women...You will know them by their fruits. However, there are some ministries that are televised and broadcast world wide and for good reason. The ones that send in their money blindly do so because this ministry or that by the celeb evangelist or that panders to their concept of the Bible teaching...Plenty of Bible believing Christians do see through this. One such ministry is called
http://traveltheroad.com/missions_info/about/
These guys are amazing. Another such ministry is Way of the Master with Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort and also http://www.crosstv.com. None of these ministries ask for money, though they do have items for sale to support the work and often ask that you give to certain charitable missions that feed, clothe, shelter, minister and adopt or educate children. So don't lump them all in with the Paul and Jan Crouches of the world or the Benny Hinn's. They all have to associate with one another sometimes in order to share network air time and such..but the difference can be seen easily. Love in Christ, ~J~

Most of the things you've mentioned are reasons against 'televangelists' for me. Television is a valid medium for spreading God's word, yet most of these people are using it as a way to make themselves rich and famous. Deuteronomy says that prophets need a 100% correct rate to be true prophets, so everyone should be more careful what they say that God is saying. Simon the Sorcerer in Acts was severly rebuked for offering money for the gift of the Holy Spirit; this should be given away freely as we have received all God's blessings freely.

Lets not group them all together. That is hardly either accurate or fair. Just do not send them money and only those who are there for the right reason will remain, unless they are say suported by a political party. Seems there is at least one like that. You know if you actually read your Bible and encourage others to do the same no one on TV is going to lead you very far astray and not for long. You must admit the TV is a good medium to spread the word unfortunately people will buy most anything because they are so lazy. It is a way to spread the truth if we suport that.

Very simpathetic with this view, but it is over simplified. Tele-evangelist must be true to themselves or they could not do what they do, the trouble is human nature comes into play and they get greedy along the way without even being aware of it. Decieved and in error may be but not completely evil.
The early church had similar problems with false teachings etc, this are just another error believers are going through.
Hopefully not too many people will be sucked into this and start to live by the bible again.
Remember there are many good examples of Christians in the world today I believe these tele-evangelist are not in this category generally.

False? In what sense?
Most of them are pretty good comedians and entertainers. I rarely watch them but when I do, I feel sorry for the viewers who end up getting spiritually and financially robbed.
A lot of them are masters at the art of con, as well.
I don't have the right to tell people how to earn or spend their money. But I can't believe that fooling a person who can't afford it into giving several hundred dollars so that the televangelist can buy a spare corporate jet for his servants...is divine will.
Overall, they're a group of empty suits.

Not all are false.Christ came as a carpenter's son to show the Jews that "King"of the Jews" or the Messiah will not come as THEY want him to come because his ways are not our ways.
The apostles did not keep themselves poor they made sure that their homes had sufficient before they left on their quest.Would you be able to travel with loads of coins dangling from your waist?
When JESUS asked them to give up all they had to follow him he did not mean to suffer their families and make them starve.Their quest was based on their faith that he will take care of them.
Concerning the prophecies, I think you should read your bible again and read what it says these gifts are.God works through them with His healing power but it is by faith to receive that healing that the sick are healed
.It is not wrong to ask for money.God knows what the world is about and is quite up to date on currency. It is written that God wants us to prosper and excel in all areas of our life and that means financially as well.
How will we be able to bless others e.g water, homes etc if we were all poor.
When we give tithes it is not our last dollar it is our first because we put God first in all things. And giving tithes does not only mean we will only get back money.God will poor out blessing where we would not even have room to store them. This is our belief that he knows what our needs are because he has started a good work in us he promised us he will complete it.
