Well, what you are saying is that you want to educate people about the benefits and importance of learning music, specifically piano. There is nothing wrong with educating people about these benefits. You can do that in getting a terrific speech put together and ask to speak at local schools, women's groups, parents groups etc for just the purpose of educating people. They can choose to take those lessons at the school, at some other local place or your studio (if you have one) if they are interested. You don't have to push yourself and card on people.. If you are from a large area, maybe you can have a flyer with different choices on it. That will cause people to realize that you generally want to raise awareness and not just add money to your pocket. They will respect you for it and choose you even quicker, if you are not out of their price range and driving distance.

Why would you not want to seem like you wanted to get more pupils? Marketing your trade is nothing to be ashamed of. You are just making people aware of what you can offer them. By educating them about the benefits of learning to play an instrument, you are actually doing them a favour. They might not know otherwise!
You might be worried that people won't believe you, in which case, you need some evidence to back up your claims like quotes from your pupils about how learning music has helped them or if you can manage it some scientific evidence like statistics.
Don't be afraid to talk about your business to anyone and everyone. You want to do your job, so let people know how you can help them.

Approach a local paper and get interviewed - they often have a section for interesting local people.
Set out your arguments for the benefits of learning to play the piano in as an attractive way as possible and keep your fingers metaphorically crossed!
Good luck.

well, i think by getting people's attenstion about the beauty of music first of all, maybe, trying to make them really listen to their favorite kind of music and recognizing what instruments are playing in the background..
after that, you might try to make them listen to higher classes of music, like the well-know classic pieces played basically by a piano.
piano is a very beautifull and attractive instrument, but it might be boring to some people, as it is not like the lead guitar :) try to make them listen to pieces that have piano playing real fast melodies, it's closer to teenagers' hearts and personalities..
