20 minutes of exercise per day.
I would ONLY do sit ups every OTHER day.

Losing weight is really simple... eat fewer calories than you burn. Eat to live, don't live to eat. Here's some advice on the mental aspect of dieting: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/weightloss.html
Replace your junk food, sodas, etc. with plenty of vegetables and some fruits. Keep the carbs, fats, and sugars to a minimum. Exercise daily for 30 minutes if you want to lose even faster, but it's not absolutely necessary as long as your calorie intake is under 1600 per day. Don't forget your vital nutrients like vitamins, minerals, purified water, etc. You'll be surprised at the results.

Losing weight through situps only is unlikely unless you are also reducing your food intake, eating the appropriate things ( ie. not much sugar or fat in your food) and at the right times of day - not eating within about three hours of bedtime.
Exercise is great for burning-up fat, but you would do better to also do other exercises. Weight training is good for strength and power. Weights aren't that good at burning fat, just for muscle power and definition. You will burn fat faster by cycling, jogging, digging the garden, etc.

If you want to lose weight it is better to do a cardio workout on a regular basis. Something like jogging or an exercise class.

You have to do as many as you can as often as possible without over working your muscles so that they ache the next day and you can't do any.
