Exactly, biscuits with gravy on top of them. The gravy is usually made with sausage, and often has pieces of sausage in it. The biscuits are usually split to sop up more of the gravy. American cafes that serve breakfast almost always have biscuits and gravy as an offering, usually a large plate of it by itself, but sometimes to go alongside eggs and sausage.

American biscuits are different from European biscuits. Ours are fluffy shortbreads like scones, but savory, not sweet. They're great by themselves, split with a pat of butter inside. Yum! Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast dish (as far as I know it's a breakfast dish). The biscuits are split and topped with white gravy that has sausage bits in it. Yummm!!!
If I'm not mistaken, what you call biscuits, we call cookies. In America, cookies are denser than biscuits, they are not at all the same thing. Cookies are flatter and harder, biscuits are lighter and soft because they're actually a bread. Cookies may be either chewey or hard, some even crispy, but biscuits are always thick and soft. If they're hard, they're overcooked.

Something I love and have not made in a long time. I get some big Pillsbury biscuits in the thing that pops open and makes you jump and bake them. Then I get the Jimmy Dean sausage in a tube and fry it up. Then I get some milk and slowly add flour until it thickens in a sauce pan and then throw in the sausage. Then I cut the biscuits in half and put the gravy mixture on top. YUMM!

A biscuit in the USA is made from flour, baking powder, salt and lard, and buttermilk. It is mixed up into a dough and turned out on a floured board. Then you knead the dough for just a minute of two and then using a rolling pin you roll out the dough and cut it with a round cutter about two-three inches in width. Place the rounds on an ungreased baking pan and bake in the oven until just slightly golden brown on the tops. I immediatley brush with melted butter over the tops, just as soon as they come out of the oven.
When they are baked, take them out of the oven and sjplit them in two. Pour white sausage gravy over the tops and eat while hot. Very tasty.
