because its forbidden by the quaran it is also forbidden in the bible and also to Jews this will have made good sense at the time because pork can be risky and even more so in hot climates i know that here they have to have injections and be inspected before they can be passed fit to eat

Muslims do not eat pork because it is forbidden in the Curran. The pig is considered an unclean animal and therefore unfit to eat. This same principle applies to the Jews.

The same reason Jews and Christians don't. It is from the Old Testament. Also i think Mohommad may have enforced it in the Quran.
Deu 14:8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.
Now Isaiah says that when Jesus returns that people who eat pork will be consumed among the other abominations (Of course if a Christian didn't realize that he should not eat it, God is just and will not punish him for it).
Isa 66:17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.

Actually, having worked in Tunisia for 3 years I can safely say that some of them actually do eat it. I mean we all know how good a bacon sandwich tastes!
Then again Tunisia is an example of a muslim / islamic country where the religion of islam is not taken to extreme.
But the other users are correct - they beleive that it is a dirty animal or 'unpure' / 'unclean' and so therefore don't eat it - it's not like it's sacred or anything.

The Quran says it is dirty and should not be eaten. The same thing appears in the Old Testament and is the reason why most jewish (and some cristians) don't eat pork either. And as a sideline, could we please respect each other and stop insulting a specific religion/group of people? Some of those comments above are completely out of place.

Firstly because like the Jewish Torah, the Koran forbids the eating of pork.
I also believe that Allah / God was trying to help His people to avoid Trichinosis, a parasitic disease often caught by eating undercooked infected pork.

The bible says:
Deu 14:8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.
The Qur'an says: 2:173 He has forbidden to you only carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that over which any name other than God's has been invoked;
Jesus, Moses and Muhammad all never ate pork.

candi k said - all three monotheistic religions were told not to eat pig. its not because they are dirty, it is because they are too similar to humans genetically...
So, back in the day when humans could barely ride an oxon, someone said "They are a bit close genetically old bean. The Deoxyribonucleic acid (becuase they discovered DNA back then too) is just one chromozone short of perfect human Nucleotide sequence. Best we don't eat these hog swine"
They don't eat them because someone decided IN A BOOK that they shouldn't and we have been too soft over the years to challenge this thinking.
