The soul is Body, Mind and Spirit.
You are a living soul. When you die, you give up the spirit or the "ghost", which is really the breath of life which God gives in order for you to be a soul.
Act 12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
There are 2 more other meanings for spirit Biblically, that is the Holy Spirit; part of the Godhead, and evil spirits; demons.

In ancient Greek philosophy they associated the spirit with "breath". The ancient Greeks also used the word for 'alive' as for 'ensouled'. So the earliest surviving Western philosophical view might suggest that the soul makes living things alive.
There are some Christians who try to distinguish the spirit from the soul but when it comes to the afterlife... It's all the same thing.
It's not like you soul goes to heaven but your spirit doesn't... That's ridiculous.
Trying to define exactly what the soul/spirit is made up from is harder to figure out. Does it include our personality? our intellect? our emotions? our mind? What part of my personality is just chemicals and neurotransmitters in my brain and what part is my soul? I understand that Jesus taught that we do not have sex, or genders in heaven.. How much of my personality is dependent on my gender?
One theory of the soul believes that the basic fabric of reality is comprised of many dimensions. Energy is the basic component of the universe and intrinsic to matter. Our soul is really a type of quantum energy that continues after our bodies die. Everything we do, everything we say and every thought that enters our minds contribute to this quantum energy or soul.

Nice question.
I'm going to answer based on Judeo-Christian belief.
The soul is the part of you that was created when you were born. It's like your mind & your memory. It's the part of you that must choose between good and evil based on what you've experienced in your life.
The spirit is the part of you that existed before you were born. before you accept Christ in your life, your spirit is dead (like asleep). When you accept Christ, your spirit is revived, and you then are able to worship God in spirit and in truth. You are connected to God through your spirit, and it's like the "good angel", if you will, that's constantly trying to persuade your soul to do good.
The soul and spirit are quite different. The soul is young and naive, the spirit is old and wise. The soul holds your personality, but the spirit holds your principles. In order to be successful, you must rely on your spirit. The spirit has a wider view of what's really happening in the world (both natural & spiritual), and it is infinitely wiser than your soul because it has direct connection to God (when you're born-again). The spirit is a teacher.

the soul is like the central place in you that contains the _secrets _of _understanding _life and the spirit is a _souls _phealings _in _receptive _instinctual _thoughts and they work together as a spiritual soul its like this you might have knoweledge but if you dont reconize the spirit that goes with that knoweldge then you will not know how or when to use that knoweledge thats in your soul alot of people get spiritualy blind because of confusions that make them doubt and keep them from being able to make a firm choice but if you make a choice let it be the correct choice and stay confident in the correct choice and as your honnor to that choice grows so the reconition of the phealing grows more evident untill you can read the radients of the spiritual phealings around you and know what is in the hearts of others as well as your self and when you find the one for you you dont just think its the one you know in full confidence that its true

You in your entirety as a person are a soul. Spirit as used in the Bible can mean several things. Do you really want to know? Its complicated. Just remember one thing...you and I, as human beings do not each have our own immortal spirit. We are made from the earth and will become part of the earth again when we die. However, while we are on this earth there are principalities that battle for your soul every day..all day. The Spirit of God...The Breath of Life...is what sustains your being..however, the further you get from God through sin, the more you are allowing sinful spirits to guide you and in some instances become you. Just as Jesus rebuked Satan during His time in the wilderness we are all tempted by sin...When you give your life to God and recieve His atoning blood for your sins you are then saying that you desire to have the mind of Christ...you achieve this by staying in the Word and by keeping His commandments and repenting whenever you have sinned..because we all struggle. However, that seed has been planted..you belong to Him. We are all considered vessels and its the contents of that vessel..your mind and heart that will be judged. Some vessels were made to contain great things and to last (the Heavenly Host - the term Host means to contain or be a vessel of God) the other vessels are doomed for destruction. The contents unfit for the Kingdom of God. So, as well when you hear someone in the Bible talking about their spirit..you are seeing someone who is speaking of their emotions..which are often preyed upon by evil spirits (fallen angels from the great rebellion) jor demons..God calls us to use our minds to reason out what those feelings are and trust in Him with our mind, heart and being. Don't rely on your feelings or your own understanding but on every Word that proceeds from His mouth. That is the full armor of God that protects us in this conflict. Here is a website that can answer alot of questions but just remember...read the Bible..it says everything I'm telling you..I'm just paraphrasing. Love in Christ, ~J~

None. Both immaterial. A good soul or a good spirit ? Some may say that it is what differs us from animals, as animals do not have a soul, or is it a spirit ?

Soul and spirit are the same. There are two scriptures where this can be confusing when read without translating to Greek (1 Thessalonians 5:23, and Hebrews 4:12). The two Greek words used are psuche and pneuma. psuche means "a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or breeze". pneuma means breath. The misconception that they are separate are due to the translation.

God calls himself a Spirit in ... Genesis ! :a million interior the beginning up God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth became formless and empty, darkness became over the exterior of the deep, and the Spirit of God became soaring over the waters. The spirit of a guy or woman is created and in no way destroyed . whilst the physique dies the spirit lives on and is going to the dominion of heaven if the guy had grew to become from their sins (repented) and chosen to persist with God.Or to hell if the guy hasn't. so plenty extra i might desire to declare in this subject count... The Bible refers back to the soul as your innermost being, what makes you you in essence. be careful online there is rather some mis counsel. while you're rather severe approximately God constantly analyze if what you're examining strains up with what the Bible says.

everyone has a soul, and flesh. The flesh is born with sinful desires and cravings, the soul is neatral ground where we choose and reason, the spirit is dead in man until they recieve Christ as Lord, to be born again is to be born in the spirit. When your spirit is alive it contends with the desires of the flesh, they constantly fight each other and the soul is where you as a person decide who you will listen to.
