i don't know that daft is the word i would use , but you have too remember that even in the new age there are still more women who are stay at home moms than there are stay at home dads.
so the children naturally grow accustomed too having mom answer all the questions and provide all of the daily emotional need of the children.
this can be rectified by the father taking more time when he is home to help take care of the children and becoming more proactive in their raising.
but also in general, men and women of the same age and educational back ground, women tend to be 10 to 15 points higher in their i.q than men.

The father is generally the authority figure in the family and So children often despise authority and gravitate more towards the affectionate mother. Who is also less physically intimidating.

Because the mothers sacrifice too much for their children beginning from the extreme of labour and going onwards. So Dad's are considered second class parents and mums are always favoured! We did the same to our Dad (even though the poor man didn't deserve it) but you just can't help loving your mum more.
