rest, ice, gentle stretching and rehab exercises. accupuncture can help
but most important is visit a good physiotherapist or osteopath to oversee your treatment and recovery.
tendonitis can linger and become chronic, causing further damage, so make sure you're working with a good professional.
If your therapist doesn't make a difference within 4 visits, then probably time to change and try with someone else.
good luck.

Hi if you have torn your Achillies you would surly no about it as the pain is unbearable. You ist need to see your gp he will refer you to the Orthopaedic team in your local hospital where they will examine you and decide where they go from there treatment wise.If not you can buy splints from boots, chemists but there not cheap. Also in your hospital there is a appliance dept where they deal with all patients from gps and hospitals they issue splints to referral patients only so ask your gp about this if no better.Good Luck

Traditional achilles tendinitis treatment (ie, rest, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, orthotics, cortisone injections, icing, ultrasound, and conventional physical therapy) are not very successful, and about 25 per cent of athletes who suffer from chronic achilles-tendinitis problems end up undergoing surgery.

I copied this excerpt from Sports Injury Bulletin, which I've enclosed a link for so you can find out some keys to preventing this problem.

Anything with 'itis' on the end means inflammation. So as with any inflammation it needs rest, anti-inflammatories and some hot/cold compresses alternated when possible. Be patient, do too much too soon and you will be back to square one.
