Okay, here we go...

For those of you that dont think colorguard is a sport, ill prove you wrong...

(First off colorguard is flagteam...spinning flags, rifles, and sabres while the band marches.)

A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

Colorguard is an extremely active sport. We have 4 to 10 minute shows. Which means we are running for at least 9 of those minutes. We have to be strong in order to toss 5s on rifles, doubles on flag and 6's on sabre.

Colorguard competes!!!! We go to shows and compete other colorguards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. We go to finals where we compete the finalists for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place again.

We are judged by a panel of judges. they score us depending on if we performed well, how many drops there were, the dificulty of our work, if we all did what we were suppposed to on time, and cant pass the penalty line or we r disqualified

I am with you 100%. It is difficult to do that for several minutes at a time. I had many friends that were on the colorguard and danceline. I was drum major and I often helped the girls with their routines and it didn't take long for me to get exhausted.

I've taught guards for marching band shows and for winter guard competitions and couldn't agree with you more. The level of difficulty has increased tremedously over the years. No longer is the guard a backdrop of flags behind the band. They have to be adaptable to all kinds of equipment and props. This varied equipment choice can add alot to the overall theme of the performance. In the past ten years dance, body movement and facial expression have become a huge part of the performance. I have nothing but respect for all those in color guards. You have a tough assignment and usually don't get the respect or recognition that you deserve.

i dont think colorguard is a sport but you have a good point about the hard work. im in marching band and guard works alot harder than us just without the running out of breath super fast. but yeah they have alot more practices during the summer.

if you are going to BOA then good luck

umm.. hello ballet as well as caberet dancing fall into the same category. they are extremely active and require superiormusle control and flexibility. They are catigorized as arts because artistism cannot judged by a stop watch or measuring stick. Each judge may have thier own ideas as to what they would like to see in a competitor. But as it seem impossible to change your mind i think i'll leave it at that

Cool. So go discuss it on the sports page. Or better yet, ask a QUESTION about it there.
