Why isn't David considered a prophet in judeo-christian theology.

you contend that the psalms are words of god and david recieved the psalms? So then why is it that david is not a prophet.

I believe a prophet is "a person who speaks for God or a deity, or by divine inspiration"

In Islam David is considered a prophet and was given the Zabur which would be the Original Psalms.

I don't understand why he is not a prophet in Judeo Christianity?

Please don't post scripture, i am questioning it on mere logic.

To all those that say being a prophet is to prophesize about the future. Then why don't christians hold that Nastordamus is a prophet.

Before you answer it I already know your answer.. his 'prophecies' are vague.. That said isn't every prophecy vague.

"i am questioning it on mere logic" Logic can not apply to religion, that's why religions lend themselves to any interpretation and to any fanatisms.

Thats is the saddest thing i have ever heard. Its called blind faith. Dont take me for an atheist but i think there should be logic to any word of god.

With that loose definition any priest could also be a prophet. Any one who reads aloud the Bible would be a prophet. A Prophet Bucolically had to some extent be predictive of future events. The Psalms While they end up being predictive were not intended to be so. They were songs.
Also there usually was a division between prophet, priest and king, Political leader, religious leader and voice of God. I am also unaware of any history outside of Islam that calls David a prophet. Moses, Solomon, Esther, were also not usually considered prophets either.

This is a common statement of faith by atheists. it has no basis in fact. All the works of logic and reason applied to the study of Christianity, whether C.S.Lewis, Josh McDowell, Peter Stoner, Chuck Colson, Simon Greenleaf, Augustine, St Aquinas, or Calvin, to mention a few ignored to back up the blind statement of faith. He might as well have said, I hate oranges and will never eat one because they have no taste.

P.s Capital P Prophet is a title like King. David already had the one title. Lower case p prophet is one who has the prophetic word from God. All Christians who have studied Psalms agree that King David was a prophet.

Real Christians don't choose their truths they discover those thruths the Bible contains. It is the reality that transforms us.

Probably the best Biblical example would be something like the the magicians of Pharohs court that could duplicate the miracles of Moses. The Holy Spirit seeks to glorify God the Son Jesus and God the Father. The test of the supernatural is just that, does it draw attention to the Jesus of the Bible. I have yet to hear of one person who gave God glory for and loved Jesus more due to the "prophecies of Nostradamus". The Old testament prophets did bring attention to God, and most of them have some mention of the Messiah, Jesus.

David was not a prophet because he did not have a special message from God to tell to the people. He was king of Israel, he was a poet, and a fighter, but not a prophet.

Yes, many of David's Psalms were prophetical, but that doesn't make him be a prophet, it just validates his anointing. In his psalms, he was praying to God or praising Him, and at times he was also sharing with others how God uplifted him. When we see the prophecies in David's psalms. we're seeing the echo of what God has said to him to comfort him. Although we can now see that certain things in the Psalms were prophecies of things to come, for ppl at the time it was written, it was not a prophecy as much as an understanding of who God is, and how He is a present comforter.

To give further amplification to your latest question, the reason Christians do not consider Nostradamus to be a prophet was becasue Nostradamus never claimed that he was revealing divine information. And yes, you also have the problem of vagueness; but the real answer is that true prophesy in the religious sense must be information about the future that the prophet reveals because he is commanded by God to reveal it. By his own admission, Nostradamus never did this.

==============================================
The nature of prophecy is prediction. David is credited with writing many of the psalms, but his psalms make no predictions about future events. Consider the prophesies of Isaiah or Daniel that many Christians believe fortold the birth of Jesus, the fall of Judea, and the end of the world. That's what prohecy looks like; and David never did anything like that. His psalms are about praise and faith, right now -- not about the future.

Hope this helps.

I'm a Christian.

Yes, David (King David) is considered a prophet. This is also stated in the New Testament. Jesus confirms David's inspiration by the Holy Spirit in Matthew 22, and Luke calls David a prophet Acts 2.

I don't know who told you we don't consider David a prophet. Whoever it is, was wrong.

to speak wisdom and to tell the future are in most cases different ,to combine them can cause confusion like if i said something wisely true about god and then i know that someone will be a hero to cure the wounded but i say and god shall heal the people then there is wisdom as people are a part of god and there is prophetics but if i dont say it and it happens any way then ive done neither except knowing that it would be done or i could say something thats not true and if someone dose it they could look back and say i prophessed and others might say it was only done because someone read the verse and made it true because they wanted it to be made true ,so before you call him a prophet consider the claims of his version of god as a destroyer before you call him a prophet because the prophetics i see might be wisdom to know that god would rather turn those enemies in the correct direction rather than destroy them but satan vengence and evils of such would want you to stumble and follow and beleive in destruction rather than salvation,so when the winds blow dont fear and doubt the savior and the goal for the doubts are heavy and faith as a faither floats as boats upon the waters above the stresses of the deep, and any one could claim to speak for god but that does not make them a prophet but perhaps he did not understand which nature was gods and which was satans and he simply spoke what would happen and associated all actions to god so some will call him a prophet and some will say no hes not but its for you to decide wheather it bothers you or if you just keep faith in god

King David is considered a prophet since some of his psalms foretold the sufferings of the Messiah and His ressurection.

Best to let Jesus answer such a question. Psm.110:1;
Matt.22:42-45; David had said, The LORD of the Lord [ Jesus ] said, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies [ Satan and his angels ], thy footstool [ on earth ].

Acts 2:31-35; Jesus is sitting on the right hand of God, waiting till his enemies [ Satan and his angels as foes ] are cast down onto footstool earth. Heb.1:1-13; Dan.12:1 [ When Michael takes his stand there shall be a time of trouble such as never has been before, so in Rev.12:6-11,12[ Jude 9]; Satan is cast down to earth and has a short time and WOE to the inhabitants of the earth. Satan is angry. Rom.16:22;

Psm.82:6[ John 10:34-36 ]; Jesus said, I said, Ye are gods?

Well according to the Qu'ran, Jesus is only a prophet, not the son of God. With so many different beliefs, how the hell do we know what to believe? I know what I believe. I have faith.
