When I was 12 I read the old testament by myself for the first time.
After Genesis I decided that if that god was a human I'd rather have nothing to do with him. I read the thing to the bitter end (revelations) as a student because you have to if you want to understand most of Western literature, and I can't for the life of me imagine what kind of brainwashing a person must have undergone to want to read it again, let alone study it.
It seems to require leaving decency and common sense behind, just look at the hate some of these people pour out over anybody who dares disagree with them.

I read the The Holy Scriptures (the Christian OT) often. I do it mostly as reference, tho for spiritual inspiration too, and weekly in a classes, during the school year. Also, I read the Qur'an often, too. Both books can give meaning to life, and a feeling of contentment and understanding of peoples.

I used to read it all the time. I've read all kinds of spiritual
thought, and always went back to my Bible to keep my
balance.
I am working on a God based street and prison ministry called
Gang for God. It teaches the Way of the Warrior.
For you my Native American Princess, I would ask you to read in the book of Job. There are verses that show your peoples religion is not in vain.
"Ask the earth, and it will teach you,
and the birds of the air, and they will teach you,
and the fish of the sea will declare it unto you."

Not nearly enough, but when I do I feel better and I beleive I act more faithfully for at least one following day even if I do not read it that day. If you hate reading there are often non-denominational preachers on AM radio stations check it out sometime...just thought I would throw that in there.

I'll admit to having been slack for awhile, but I usually read it every day now and I highlight the passages that I find especially illuminating. I think you should read it everday as it is to be food for your mind and soul. I don't starve my body so I can't starve the other without concequenses. I feel closer to God when I read his word.

Never in my entire life. I don't even own a bible. Some people have tried to give me one, but I have always gently turned down the gift.

sadly not enough. I have read the bible from cover to cover several times, but I fail to come back to it for wisdom. I could tell you my excuses, but for what? It is my fault.
