the following can be symptoms of bipolar disorder:
-Inflated sense of self-importance (e.g., may have grandiose delusions or overestimate abilities and talents)
_Decreased need for sleep (e.g., may go days without sleep and not feel tired)
-Loud, rapid speech (e.g., may talk nonstop)
-Racing thoughts (e.g., may abruptly jump from one subject to another)
-Distractibility (e.g., may not be able to screen out irrelevant details)
-Agitation or restlessness (e.g., may pace or hold multiple conversations at once)
-Increase in goal-oriented activities (e.g., may have an increased sex drive or become excessively and inappropriately social)
-Unwise involvement in pleasurable but potentially risky activities (e.g., may rack up significant debt, have sex with strangers, abuse drugs, or make rash investment decisions)

I work part time at a mental instituation..During orentation the
instuctor talked a little about bipolar. BIpolar means two poles.
You are either up or down.Pay attention to me! I'm the greatest
thing on earth, on one pole. The other pole severe depression.
A mood stabelizer such as lithium is given. But lithium as
well as all pyscotrophic drugs have side effects, such as shaking.
cogenten is given to reduce the shaking. When we go to a regular
hosp. ,you are in and out in a short time.I just talked to a man
who has been in the same ward for 16 years.

When Bipolar you're either manic for a state of time or depressed. Not both at the same time - not in the way I think you mean. There's a famous book called "I Hate You, Please Don't Leave Me" which illustrates the Borderline Personality Disorder. It would be much more natural for someone with that disorder to, as the book title implies, have extremely conflicting emotions at the same time.

I am against lay people talking about serious mental disorders as if they are just psychological problems and imagining that they or their acquaintances have these diseases.
Nobody is 100% normal.Just because you are sometimes depressed and sometimes happy you are not bipolar or any kind of lunatic.
