I had a Casio (6MP) but my nephew broke it so I had to buy a new one because it was too expensive to fix.
I bought a Canon SD600 because it also has a view finder. This one is also 6 MP and takes great pictures. It has a lot of features that you may or may not use but the quality of the pictures are great. It only cost $349. I got it a month ago from Office Max because I got a FREE 1GB SD card with it. What a great deal.
If this will be your first digital camera, you can get something in the range of 3 to 4 MP and spend about $150 to $200 and still have good pics.

Canon Cameras are easy to use and really good quality and not that expensive.

It depends from where you are buying but do buy the latest model as the technology changes overnight in cameras.

I am a photographer and have used quite a few but nothing beats canon.
