to the one who stated that the men recieves dowry.. completely wrong its the women who recieves the dowry.

This is my understanding of marriage in islam.

The purpose of marriage in islam is to ascertain the genealogy of the child. That is the core of the purpose of marriage.
This leads to the father adequately providing for his children and them knowing who their father is. A right that every child is entitled to.

Love, living well together and all that gooshy stuff are adornments if you will. If you look at marriage in islam you will notice you need witnesses in a marriage. The witnesses are there in the situation that one concieves they can attest to who the father is.

This is precisely the reason woman can't have more then one husband.

This would also explain the reason one must marry. i.e answers the question what is so wrong with fornication.

Don't misconstrue what i am saying to mean you shouldn't love, be kind and all the other stuff. But the principle is to ascertain the fathership.

Many others will provide circumstances that would lead to having other wives... which can also be taken in lieu of this reasoning.

Nevertheless islam stipulates that you be equitable with your wives.

seeing nobody is stating reasons leading to multiple wives. i guess i will attempt to do that too.

1) The verse revealed was after the Battle of Uhud. It was the second battle and one the muslims lost. As a result many men died from that battle. As such there were many widows left over and men has historically been the 'provider'. and so the following verse was revealed which permits polygamy.

004.003
"If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice."

So it was revealed in relation to marrying widows so as to take care of the orphans and consequently the widows.

004.004
"And give the women (on marriage) their dower as a free gift; but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, Take it and enjoy it with right good cheer."

this verse disputes the one who posted that women give men dower. Women giving men dower is a hindu custom.

Other issues may be attributed to Infant mortality rates making it hard to have children. Indeed the prophet Muhammad burried all but one child (Fatma). Al Qasim, Abdullah, Zaynab, Rukaya, Ummu Kulthum and Fatma and Ibrahim.

Moslem is following the way of life of the prophet Mohammed, who had 4 wives. It is stated in Moslem holy book Koran (Qur'an), however, that a man can take more than 1 wife only if he has honest permission from his first wive and vow to give equal share of his love , wealth and his attention; which in reality is rather impossible for ordinary human being, unlike Mohammed as holy person who married women to rescue them.

i dont know the religious reason, but i do know that the family of the wife is required to give a dowry (money, land, animals, etc) to the husband, when he takes a wife, or another wife.

since i believe in one man, one woman, i have to guess that this is a "man written" or interpeted thing so the man can get more and more wealth.

i just wonder if all that wealth is worth having yet another mother in law....

They say it's part of their religion. I say BULL F_CKIN SH_T. It's their excuse (or cop-out) by taking advantage of male dominace and abusing all the young females simply for their sick sexual whims and the law lets them get away with it. Very VERY PRIMITIVE. uncivilized

Because Arab women find rich Arab men so attractive that the women are always fighting over them. This way, Arab women don't kill each other over one man. They get to share him with 3 other women.
