Fall out of love with all uniforms. Get counseling about how difficult it is to form a lasting relationship with a unformed person in certain situations, not everyone. Why is that, is the question? Good Luck. But you can do it if you understand the problem.

By praising him for his services to the community. By telling him that most of what he does cannot be humanly performed like most others like us - like standing out in the hot sun for 8 hours at a stretch as in India, like risking his life in pursuing criminals, like working during odd hours when most others sleep, like missing out family life just because others like us have to roam around safely on road.
Also tell him the reason why people broadbrush the cop on a negative stereotype - like the Rodney King assault case - and what he should do to protect individual liberties while practising his profession, if the cop community has to earn everyone's respect.

Letting go of any kind of feelings takes some work. Concentrate on yourself, be good to yourself by doing some favorite things and stay with positive, fun people. This, too, shall pass.
