I know my family originates from cornwall (apparently) but I don't know what happened. All I know is some great-great-great so on grandfather moved to Wicklow in Ireland and then to dublin. I was wondering if anybody knew what happened to the other half of the family.

Hey shrimpdoddy,

Did you pick your nickname for your family name (shrimpDODDy)? lol

Here are some sites that may help you. The first is the GENFORUM - I like this site because you can communicate with people of a common interest and heritage! They may be researching the same thing you are, and may have the information you want!

Also, there are many Dodd families in USA. Senator Dodd from MAssachusettes, etc.

I put the English prisioners list because it is possible that some relations were recorded there.

In 1841 there were 17 Dodds still living in Cornwall. However the male head of the largest family was not born in Cornwall. The other major head of a family is a widow. So cannot determine from this census anything definite. I have also listed an index of wills from Cornwall which can provide clues if you can access the actual wills.

Also some information for Dodds in and around Dublin which may be of interest.

A listing of Dodd wills in Cornwall during that time period. It gives an idea of names and places.

Devon & Cornwall: - Wills and Administrations proved in the Bishop of Exeter, 1559-1799
Court of the Archdeaconry of Exeter.

County: Cornwall
Country: England
Dodd, John, Throwleigh W. 1734

Dodd, Tho., St Blazey A. 1644-5
Dodd, Richard, Kenton W. 1782

Dodd, Joseph, Lostwithiel 1761
Dodd, Richard, Drewsteignton A. 1784
Dodd, John, Chagford W. 1770
Dodd, John, East Budleigh A. 1773

The 1841 census for Cornwall lists 17 individuals. This can be a clue to family members which did not move to Ireland.

the people with the best family data bases are your local mormon church. its surprising, but most morman churches are really into family genology. call your local churches. Most of them have open days for people to come look their family history up.
