" I need to get something for floppy.? "

VIAGRA!!!! ; )

If you have the original win95 cd get a friend to copy the i386 folder to a floppy for you, this contains the files needed to set up the OS. But I suspect that your REAL problem is that your lappy wont boot because you have no operating system to load (as you've deleted part of it), and is trying to boot from its next preferred boot device (floppy). Get into the BIOS (you should have a message on screen when you turn it on saying which key to press to access the BIOS, if you dont try 'delete' or F2, if they dont work you only have 99 left to try!!)... once in the BIOS settings search around for something along the lines of 'boot device settings', usually found in an 'Advanced' section.... you'll probably find the machines been set to boot from hard drive, and if no OS is found to try the floppy.... you need to change this order to start with the CD drive, then you'll be able to boot from the installation CD.

If it still wont work boot from a boot floppy, preferably one made from a WinME or Win98 computer as these will include the CD drivers and then you'll be able to use DOS to navigate to the install.exe file on the CD....if this doesnt work, boot from your bootable floppy, once booted take it out and insert the floppy containing the i386 folder, and navigate to the install.exe that way.

EDIT: what the hell was I drinking when I answered?.... the i386 folder WONT fit on a floppy, so scrub that idea.... you need to either get the BIOS to boot from CD, or failing that get a chum to make you a bootable floppy to include CD drivers (win98 second edition and later operating systems do this) , boot from the floppy and navigate to the CD using DOS commands..... when it boots the CD drivers will load, you'll get a load of writing telling you what its doing, and at the end it'll say what drive letter your CD is.... so you type in the letter followed by : and press enter to access that drive... then type in setup (press enter) to start things rolling...if typing setup doesnt work try install.... I cant remember the exact command for win95, or type in dir/p to see what files are in the root of the CD and look for any that seem to be install related and use their name.

you can put xp on it but you need to go to this site and download the software to create 6 x floppy discs that will let you install xp if you havent got a bootable cd-rom
go to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994 and read the info and print a copy out and then download the file to create the discs
make sure you have 6 x brand new 1.44mb floppy disks as using formatted old discs can cause errors
these discs will load all the files you need to continue the installation with a external/internal/pcmcia/usb devices/cd-roms
one other option would be to transfer xp on to a external usb hard drive and then load it from there
microsoft have many help files that will help you with the installation of xp
any probs let me know good luck

i'm guessing your laptop is quite old. I suggest upgrading to windows 2000 as this is still supported by microsoft updates
