I'll take whiskey as meaning whiskey AND whisky.
In what price range? I could easily recommend The Macallan 30 YO, but it's price is typically untouchable by alot of us. IMHO, the true challenge is to find a reasonably priced bottle that's fantastic. Elmer T. Lee is one of the best bourbons made and is an absolute steal in the low twenties. For scotch, I'd go with the Speyside Cragganmore 12 YO. This fine single malt won't break the bank at $30-$40. Another single malt gem is Ardbeg 10 YO. To my taste, it's the softest of the Islays and priced very well between $30-$40.

Whiskey was invented in Ireland and the word is a contraction of an Irish phrase meaning "Water of Life". Your question is very broad, like "What is the best music?"
Scotch whiskey is distilled from barley roasted over peat and takes on a lot of the peat flavor. Single malts are more distinct because they have a single source of flavor.
Irish whiskey is triple distilled, also from barley roasted over peat, but the barley is kept isolated from the smoke so the flavor is much smoother and more subtle.
Bourbon is distilled from mostly corn and gets most of its flavor from charred oak barrels. The slightly sweet character comes from the corn.
Jack Daniels isn't bourbon -- it's made in Tennessee and bourbon, by law, is required to be made in Kentucky.
Blended whiskey is just that and mild and non-descript.
They all appeal to somebody and that's why it's difficult to answer your question accurately.

I understand from your spelling of the word whisky, that you are not english.
jack daniels is a bourbon,
if you wish to experience whisky, stay away from blended
try a single malt, you can buy several of the cheaper singles from wallmart, but i would suggest that you try single malt from the isle of islay, jura is a decent malt very smooth. antiquary is an excellent malt a pleasing smokey flavour you can taste the peat used in the firing of the malt, brands that show an age on the label, tip read the back of the label to find the area of manufacture
not all scotish wkisky is bottled in scotland ,avoid the ones that are transported to another country for bottling. regards LF
