Let me help!

1. You must find out what are the requirements to have a business license in your city, state, etc.

2. Insurance. You must have insurance that will cover accidents, injuries, or anything on your premises.

3. What Judo Association will sponsor you.

4. Have you been an Assistant Instructor at any other school.

5. Cost of equipment, etc.

6. A small business class (night college, or similar) to know contracts, accepting money, credit cards, receipts, and tax records.

7. The ability to answer questions pertaining to your curriculum, training philosophy, contract, etc., etc.

8. Know a legal office, and see an attorney in reference to possible law suits, your property, etc., etc.

9. Must know and be certified in First Aid and CPR.

10. Must know the history of Judo, its applications, techniques, and capabilities.

Write the Judo Association that governs and issued you your Black Belt, they should give you guidance, and perhaps sponsor your school if there is none in the area.

I agree with diamondK there is a lot more to having a martial arts school than just knowing the art, and having insurance will help protect your school from frivolous lawsuits, and you have to know well how to handle yourself in the business. A good place to start would be NAPMA National Association of Professional Martial Artists, they may be able to help you in networking your school and help you in the business aspects, as well as ideas and safeguards for your school.

good luck
