Depending on your age you won't heal as quickly. The older you are the longer it takes you to heal. Tell you doctor if you are having trouble sleeping and he may give you something to help you to sleep better.

The body heals itself while you are at rest, but in sleep it works even better because the "systems are down" and body can focus on just the healing process.

you body needs sleep because the body has a way of regenerating its self when the body is calm from sleeping. The more rest you get the faster you will heal. Sleep and alot of water also I have had several operations and taking Vitiam E helps promate red blood cell growth and boost up the healing process to good luck

healing takes place best when the body is not stressed and relaxed and sleep allows that to happen more naturally, hence the pain medication for easing the restful, less distress.

Try paying close attention to your breathing and take deep stomach rising breaths to help relax the body and lessen pain.

Good Luck and get better soon.

Happy is right. When you sleep your body rests - rest is good. Body heals faster.

By not giving your body adequate rest, it will not be able to regenerate, or accept the changes to your body, and will take longer, if not reject (i.e. liver transplants) the medical treatment. Stress from not resting will also contribute to your return visit to your doc.
