Can someone tell me where I can get transpotation and what kind to go to Manhatten. I also want to go to Ellis Island and see ground O. And times square and other places in Manhatten. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

nj transit runs commuter trains into penn station. http://www.njtransit.com see where you can take it from in nj.

in nyc, public transportation is very good and frequent. you can take subway and buses everywhere. http://www.mta.info. one tirp on the subway/bus costs $2.00, but an unlimited day pass costs $7.

if you drive, you can take the car into manhattan but parking will be extremely difficult. don't expect lots of parking spaces in midtown. day parking in garages are expensive too.

you can visit ground zero, which is not much, just a construction site. the path train to new jersey http://www.panynj.gov/path also terminates inside ground zero. ellis island will take several hours to visit because of security restrictions (you have to go through security and bag checks before you board the boat). time square is a tourist area, all you see is millions of other ppl clogging up the streets. not much to see.

I suggest you drive to an outlying station on the commuter rail line like Point Pleasant Beach. Park there and take the train into the city. You can park for much less than you would in the city. Once you get into New York, public transportation is easy to find. Make sure you get maps(subway and street) ahead of time and know where you want to go and how to get there. New Yorkers are extremely friendly and helpful. I have had several help me out of some jams with car trouble and freak accidents (non-auto).

IGNORE FOOLISH ADVICE.
Take the train or bus. There are also Pike and ride areas in NJ where you can drive closer to the city and got on a buit. Another possiblity, go to Staten Island and leave the car, take the ferry.

Ellis Island can be reasched by special bout from either the battery or from the NJ Side.

s to Manhattan, get in earlym get a full day metro pass and subway and walk, you can see lots. Go lowly and taken it in rather than try to jam everything in,

GOOD LUCK
HAVE FUN

drive into a "not so busy" section of the city, like the upper west side right off of the GW bridge, take the west side highway down to the 50's like 11th ave and 50th street and surrounding side streets it wont be difficult to find parking. To make your way around the city yellow cab it the rest of the way. If your budget conscience take the train, you cant beat 4 bucks for a day pass.
