If you’re on Yahoo Answers....does that mean that you come from a dysfunctional family? What are the characteristics for dysfunctional families now? The reason I ask is because...we are on here asking questions that we should've known from our families growing up. We are lost, so we have to resort to asking questions anonymously.

All families are dysfunctional to some degree. Those that don't admit to dysfunctionality are in denial.
Seeking answers on here takes guts and possibly desperation. In either instance, it is an intelligent and resourceful way of finding a solution to a problem.

What makes you think people on here are dysfunctional? I of course, would say most people have come from some type of dysfunctional family. It could be physical or verbal abuse, sexual abuse, addictions, gambling, drugs, alcohol, family secrets, hoe often did kids hear "do not tell anyone about this"! How could you or many others know answers from parents who have had no understanding of what dysfunctional means? They knew something was not right, but to have a name for it, or even want to find out what could be the problem and then do what would be necessary to change. It is hard work to admitt when a person will admitt to self they have a problem, and even the partners need help because it affects every family member, but Partners or family say" WHY SHOULD I GET HELP, I AM NOT THE ONE WITH THE PROBLEM. YES THEY ARE BECAUSE UNLESS THEY LEARN HOW TO SEEK OUT HELP THE EMOTIONS OF ANXIETY, PANIC, MIXED EMOTIONS ANGER, UP AND DOWN, NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT, WILL MAKE THEM SICK, SO GETTING HELP TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE THEIR OWN LIFE AND NOT BE SO CAUGHT UP IN THE PARTNERS ILLNESS, CAN MAKE A CHANGE IN THE FAMILY FOR THE GOOD. Parents do not always have the answers, we also live with the result of dysfunction and may have to seek help so we can have a better way of learning coping skills, deal with the anger plus all the other problems that arise. It is ok to ask and seek out others who may have an understanding of what you are going through, there is no shame in asking or telling someone you trust or getting professional help! I

I've never met a truly functional family--ever, and I've known some good ones. As far as why I'm on here, well, I am what you call a "know-it-all", ask my friends...so I love answering questions and sharing all of my useless knowledge. And, I like to ask questions sometimes, b/c I like to ask things that may be to risque to drop in everyday conversations during these annoyingly PC times.

no....if you are an yahoo....duh....that means you are at least wise enough to seek out the answers INSTEAD of using the mentality of our parents and hiding our problems completely...isn't it better to seek advice secretly than not at all.....and furthermore....isn't it our PARENTS that taught us that no question is a dumb one.....
