First step is to determine who made the card and what model and type it is. Simplest way to do that is to:

Click start on task bar and open the "run" program.
Next type "dxdiag" w/o the quotations and hit enter.
if it asks you if you want to "check for digital signatures" just click yes it will not affect your machine.
When the system information appears select the display tab.
You should see the manufacturer, make, and type of card.

Find their web page and look for driver updates for that particular card.

it depends on the error. if it is a driver error, then your card driver is probably corrupted and you just need to replace it. however, it the video card is kind of old and the game is fairly new, then the video card probably isnt powerful enough to play the game. the only way to fix that is to go buy a new video card. the problem there is that when you upgrade to a really high end video card, you are more than likely going to need to buy multiple other items as well. take it to a small computer store, show them the error, and ask them what you need to do to fix it.

The only way to update a video card is to buy a new one. First, you'll have to find out which type of video "interface" you have. It could be PCI, AGP, or PCI-E.

If you have Pentium 4 or new computer only 1 or 2 year old then you have AGP slot.

OR

If you have older conputer then you have PCI slot.

Try getting the latest drivers first. If you have an NVIDIA chipset then visit http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp. If you have an ATI chipset, then visit https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27
