I am in chronic pain so it is depressing to me and I haven't found anything yet to help. My body is so used to pain meds that many don't work anymore.

Laugh....just start laughing for no reason. Laughing and smiling. Sooner or later you will start to feel better. When your depressed, unfortunately, YOU DONT WANT TO SMILE, OR LAUGH. You just want to sink deeper in the hole that your in, and turn everyone and everything "Off".

But when you get to a point in your life when you realize that your better than that, then you'll find tricks to pull yourself out.

Everybody is special. Everyone has some special talent that makes them unique. Depression clouds that knowledge up, and shuts off those special things to the point in which you stop realizing that.

Know who you are, write it down, and figure out what things pulls you out of those "Cloudy days". It takes practice to do, but after you get the hang of it, your "Recovery time" will become shorter and shorter.

EVERYONE GETS DEPRESSED. Some are just able to pull themselves out faster than others. Remembering that your not alone with those feelings is a start. Also remember too that depression is a natural feeling. If you were never depressed or down, would those "Sunny days" seem so sunny? :-)

1. I take a capsule of St. John's Wort, which I call my good faith attempt to have a good attitude.

2. I usually get on the computer and find an email from a friend, or go to Answers and browse for a question to catch my attention, or go to 360 and see what's up with my friends.

St. John's is said to only be good for minor depression. I figure if you are able to think in terms of getting over it yourself, it is a minor depression. A major depression is when you just stay in bed or drag around the house listlessly and can't think of anything that matters enough to do it. For that, you really can't help yourself; someone has to intervene. But if you treat minor depression, it will not turn into major depression.

It depends on the severity of the depression and the cause behind it.

Doing something to pamper yourself is fantastic - paint your nails, take a warm bath, go out and buy french fries...anything that you don't get to do on a regular basis and that is special to you.

If it's really bad, call up a friend and just talk about anything. Or write in a journal because you can express those knee-jerk reactions without worrying about hurting anyone's feelings.

Find a healthy way to express what you are feeling.

Remember.

"When troubles will come, they are always temporary - nothing lasts forever."

its really hard for me to get things done when I feel down.
Most of the time I sleep it off. I am a very driven person with lots of energy but it seems that when I'm down or even drepressed I loose alot of energy and motivation.
Once I've slept (I go through the motions like go to school, work, and ect but don't do like grociery shopping or hanging out with friends) as much as I can which sometimes means I sleep for days at a time during my "free" time.

THen I'll watch sad movies, watch documentaries about things going on in the world. These usually help to put things in perspective for me.
I'll listen to sad music have a really good cry, maybe several good cries.

Then make really small baby goals. I'll start wheening myself out of my bedroom and off my bed. And before I know it I'm cleaning up my house. THen I'm calling a friend or two---usually its people I haven't talked to in months...do small talk then get the nerve to ask them to meet me somewhere for coffee, lunch or drinks.

Then I start working on things that will make me feel good. Like hobbies or new things I've been wanting to try.

Hope this helps! Everyone has they're own way of dealing with sadness and stress find your way, THe important thing is to make sure you help yourself back on to your feet and back out into the world!!!

Find things you enjoy doing like reading, walking, listening to music. Exercise and a proper diet are the best ways to keep depression at bay. Call up a good friend and have a real good laugh, that should make you feel better!

Hop on my treadmill and bump some tunes in my headphones. Go for a hike in the forest. Hop in my car and just drive. These all work for me.

well it depends on what you are stressed! you could take a page and a pen and write about what stresses you then leave it aside and listen to music and relax and try to forget about averything which stresses you and then when you wake up you start to write the possible solutions which could help you to get out of this situation which stresses you...
