My dad is color blind. I carry the gene. There is a 50% chance that my boy will be color blind and there is a 25% chance that my daughter will carry the gene. And that is if I get with a man that isn't color blind. Is it horrible to be color blind? I wanna hear from some people that are color blind.

A friend of mine is completely color blind. Not just unable to distinguish between a few colors, but actually can't see any colors, other than black and white and shades of gray. We always asked him what it was like and he didn't seem to care about it. That was just how he was and he knew he couldn't change it. He thought it would be funny to wear a girl scouts shirt to school, but didn't know that it was a bright neon green shirt, and that everyone within a mile could see it. Being color blind isn't the end of the world. I don't think something like being color blind should stop you from having children. Not only that but there's not a 100% guarantee that your child will be color blind.

I'm not color blind but am in the medical profession. Why don't you ask your dad if he' color blind what it's like?

He's able to function and obviously if he hadn't had children -- you wouldn't be here to even be asking this question.

There are so many other things that are worse than color blindness --- I appreciate your concern about it and I don't think it's a reason to NOT have children.

You might google colorblind and read the literature on it. I included just one link here.. there are many. Being informed is the best way to make decisions about what you want to do.

Good luck!

Well being color blind wouldnt be so good. The thing is, actual color blindness is very rare. The percentages you gave above would be for some degree of color deficiency. I am red/green color deficient. I do not think it is horrible. If it wasnt for the Ishikara test I wouldnt have even known.

There are different types of color blindness. I have a friend who is color blind and what appears red to us appears brown to him. I would not worry about passing the gene on to your children. I carry the gene for psoriasis but I still intend to have children.

Of course you should have children if you want to!

Being color blind really doesn't suck that bad.

Even if your the most color blind you can be, you can still tell red from green and thus can function in the everyday world.

Granted your sox might not always match, but oh well.

This shouldn't stop you from having children.

or marrying someone who is color blind.

Love is love. Who needs color when you have love!

There are a LOT worse things in this world than being color blind. I don't think it should prevent you from having children if you want them. Your children will be born the way that god intended them to be, and no different. My son was born with Strabismus Extrophia (his eyes go outward when he's trying to focus on something) He's having surgery done this month, hopefully it'll fix it, but if not, he's still perfect to me. Our differences only make us more special. Best of luck to you.

By all means. Color blindness runs in my family, and no one considers it such a big deal. here ore different levels of color blindness, but those with it do not feel handicapped by it.
