is there anyone out there that seems to feel a bit closer to God than the average human being?

I don't know how close the average person feels to God, but I can tell you that I feel his love in every aspect of my life. I also feel the indwelling Spirit of God in me. You can't get much closer.

I can't speak for the "average human being", but I can say that I want to feel closer to Him every day. Some days I accomplish that, and others I don't--but that is my gaol.

It is easy to feel close to God when you see Him face to face on a daily basis and His Spirit live in you and you speak in other tonges by God's Power. Ekoyolashay Seeelokoyotosh. Acts 2 Believe in God who is Jesus brother and you will see God!!!
