You're just another trouble maker looking for a debate. My decision to be an atheist was the hardest decision I have ever made. It wasn't a decision I made lightly. I didn't poll the audience like you are but rather my heart and mind. I researched evolution and took a hard look at the Bible to see which one I agreed with the most. I prayed for insight from God and nothing happened. I questioned why I believed in God and I discovered it was more cultural than faith. I served as a minister for many years and during that time I discovered that religion is nothing more than glorified superstition and church is a glorified country club. I evaluated life with its cruelty and injustice in the world and didn't see God being the loving God he suppose to be.
Please just stay a Christian because you would make a sorry atheist. You're too lazy to research your beliefs yourself.

If any atheist could convince you then it means you didn't believe in the first place. What you are saying is that as long as they have a good argument then you'll believe anything. It takes more than just mere belief it takes "faith". That means knowing, trusting and believing in something that you may never experience with your 5 senses.
Ex: During that period of history when Blacks were used as slaves in the U.S. Some made a break for freedom knowing that the odds were 99:1 or even 999,999:1 but the took the the chance anyways. Why? Well I'm sure they didn't rest the future of their families on just mere belief it took more than that.

You choose to believe in a god. So no matter what was said you could, and probably would, still choose to believe. I am an atheist so is there anything you could say to me to convert me into believing? I think not. We have both arrived at our beliefs through our own personal experiences, upbringing, and education along our lives so let's just leave it at that. You go on believing in your god and I'll go on knowing the truth....lol....had to throw that one in there.

Which God do you mean? Do you mean Zeus, or Thor, or Loki? Oh, of course not, those gods are all myths! You believe in the "one true God", the God of Abraham and Moses, described in the Old Testament, right? That jealous, angry god, who had hundreds of laws that he made his chosen people follow. Fortunately that jealous God had an "only son" who talked him into being willing a kinder and gentler God with fewer laws. Of course that God only agreed to do so on the condition that son would go down to earth and let himself be sacrificed in the most vile way possible. Never mind that there are now at least three major religions and a handful of minor religions that all derive from the Old Testament, all of which claim to be the only true religion, and mock the members of the other religions with words like "infidel".
Right, your god that is inifinitely wise and thinks it good for our souls to send us down here for seventy years or so and then damn us to hell for all eternity if we didn't practice just the right kind of faith in his infinite glory. That loving, compassionate god. Yes, of course you believe in him. Only idiot infidels wouldn't!

No one should convince another their theories! You have yours as I have mine! But be God to convince me that my own theories are not true! Every religious text so far has been tainted by human hands! If its a fellow humans' thoughts and theories, why can't I have my own? I am not a blind follower! We are all made in the image of God! And he does not love another more nor less!
The narrow way!
I AM therefore you are!

Reason and faith
always, seemingly, at odds with one another
Read Kierkegaard
One makes a leap into faith. [ In other words, let go of your rational thinking]
There is no reason to believe or not to believe in a godhead...that's why it's called "faith"......reason/logic/rational thought don't cut it
Reason needs logic
Faith simply asks that you believe
to quote the ancient Greeks
"to thine own self be true"
you can choose to believe or not believe...but don't expect that anyone can provide a reason for or against ...these are two different things

I'm not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do, but a good reason for not believing in god is to use your own mind and rationale to judge situations and make decisions for your life.

well, i think religion is just a kind of belief. so when you believe in something, you think that it really exists. it's true to everyone - both religionist and atheist.
i can say that i'm an atheist but sometimes i realize that i am praying. cause it makes me feel better or maybe it gives me some luck. :)
but i think that all atheists think that they can create their own destiny. if life is in their cotrol, so why do they have to believe in God?

Um, the reason why not to believe and why we think it's not real would be the same answer... would depend if you want to look at what someone says as a reason or just an opinion...

Of course, the counter to this question is this: Show God to the world of science. If God truly exists, science WILL prove it.
Allow scientists from around the world to do medical tests on God to determine his structure, his form, how he communicates, where he lives, what he eats, etc.
Do this, and the scientific community would fall over themselves to conduct these tests and learn the answers to this God question.
