The bible says that:
"I would that you all spoke in tongues... I Corinthians 14:5
And
"Forbid not to speak with tongues" I Corinthians 14:39

Why do people think they can do better than what God says and say otherwise?

By the way - yes I do. "No man can (really) say the Jesus is Lord but by the holy spirit" - I Corinthians 12:3 (In the context this is talking about speaking in tongues).

I am a Christian and I manifest the gift of holy spirit by way of speaking in tongues - what a great thing God made available!

I'm talking about this in a decent and in order manner - not like the majority of what people have seen out there. Too bad people screw around with spiritual matters so much.

1 Corinthians 12:7 says that the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man.
The gift of the holy spirit is what makes you born again. You choose by the freedom of your will whether or not you will make use of that gift - by manifesting it.

God is no respector of persons (Romans 2:11)
So you'd be contrary to God's word if you said that God chooses which believer gets to speak in tongues and which one doesn't.

We have all spiritual blessings - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" -Ephesians 1:3

It basically comes down to you believing what the Word of God says - or you not believing. I chose to believe - and I see the great profit.

God bless you.

Yes, I do speak in Tongues. I have a prayer language that gives me more strength than I could receive on my words alone. I believe I am following the Holy Spirit's guidance, and am thus doing what He wants me to do.

Thanks for asking!

Finish the thought in 1 Cor 14... he says :"I would that you all speak in tongues (he follows with, what you conveniently left out) But I'd RATHER you prophecy. Tongues edifies man but prophecy edifies the Church.

"Forbid not" doesnt mean "all will" and you should read your orginal 1 Cor 12:7-11 and see it is NOT a gift for all believers.

I don't speak in tongues, but I am open to receiving that gift if God wants to give it to me. I believe that tongues is for 21st century Christians just as it was for 1st century Christians.

No, I do not speak in tongues. If I ever started doing so I would hope my family would get me prompt professional psychiatric help. What on earth could possibly be the purpose of spouting gibberish that no one can understand??? I've heard that there are people who can supposedly translate tongues, but I won't buy that unless you have several so-called translators come up with the same interpretation of the nonsensical syllables. I frankly think it would be absolutely terrifying for young children to witness such a display

I have not had this gift bestowed on me. It is a very special gift of the Holy Spirit and a blessing for those who get it.

"speaking in tongues" has been likened to serious mental disorders and delusions. This is not a healthy mindset to have - believing that you are communicating with some sky daddy.

Those that do "speak in tongues" should consult with a psychiatrist without delay
