i cannot destroy this partition because it keeps saying that it was storing some parts of the reformat disks data. Is it because i clicked get update for the setup? How come i delete it and start a fresh copy of my windows xp.

It sounds like your bootdisk has ramdrived itself to memory and allocated itself as the root (c:) drive. Try the next drive up if you want to format the drive.

Enter your bios and for the Boot Order, change it to c-rom, then just run the disk and delete the partition.

Boot from the CD. then you will have no problems deleting are creating partitions
