It is not rude if you don't make a noise while you fart. It is actually humorous watching guests at the table trying to figure out who pass the gas. ;-)

Yes, unless it improves the taste of the food. or it is a family tradition. I understand that the Kandawamba tribe of eastern Madagascar require that prospective son-in-laws fart three times in ever increasing volume, if they want the approval of the fiance's parents.

In fact, if you accompany it with a with a trick like "pull my finger" or "take my arm...take it a little farther...a little farther...a little more....RAAAAAWWWWWNNNNKKKKK!" it can actually turn the ladies on.
Just kidding.
Of course it's rude. Leave the table and go somewhere where you are out of earshot and noseshot if you need to let loose some gas.

YES. Excuse yourself for a moment and let go in the bathroom, or anywhere out of earshot and smelling distance. No one wants to hear that while they're eating, thank you.
